Type of Resource:
(Scholarly /Trade/Other) Scholarly article that presents a research study.

Summary of This study examines what the outcome will be if the parent and
essential information: teacher work together. The study explains that all parents are
different and having a positive or negative belief about school
can affect the involvement. In addition, it looks at how the
parents view involvement and different ways teachers can
involve the parents. It takes a look at how parental expectations
about their childs education and responsiveness of school and
family needs. The study shows that parents who have a higher
income are more likely to be more involved. Also, teachers who
talk face to face with parents are more likely to have parents
who are actively engaged. Giving parents information and
helping the parents gain confidence will increase involvement as
well.

Way in which this

Summary of essential This journal talks about how fast technology is changing and
information: how it is playing a role in parent involvement. Children now are
called digital natives because they have known nothing but
technology. However, many parents and teachers know what
times without technology were like. However, in the journal it

positives and negatives to technology, which is explained in the
article, and it is a part of the teachers job to teach how
technology should be presented. This journal talks about the
learning outcomes and how children are more engaged in
literacy with electronic vs. printed because of the features it has
such as sound. In addition, the journal talks about how important
it is for parents to model how to use technology for children. As

print, while others are not. Teachers are accountable to understand all
childrens differences.

This study focused on two questions:

- What literacy practices do young children participate in at home?
- What are the teachers beliefs about chilrens home activities?
There is a gap between what teachers see and what parents do. It concludes
that children spend more time on literacy practices in their parent presence
then teachers believe. However, they incorporate literacy practices in various
ways.

Summary of essential Principals and teachers share the lack of parent involvement in schools and how
information: it hurts students achievement. This article focuses on how technology can
improve parent involvement including an online curriculum. Each individual
involved with children in schools have a different perception in how technology
should be used. Websites are used and information is given to the parents, but
there is little ways for parents to openly share information to teachers.
Technology, including online textbooks and educations websites, help parents
be involved with their childrens learning.

This study concluded that technology is an effective way for parent

involvement. Teachers should use the resource to share information and keep
an open communication. The article also concluded that even when the
textbook was available online only a few used it regularly.

It concluded that technology professional development is important to help

teachers keep parents involved. School districts should push each school and all
teachers to use websites to help parent communication.
