Students Prior Knowledge:


- In Grade 3, students identified place value up to 4 digits.
Possible Problems and Misconceptions:
- The S may get confused between ten thousand and thousand.

Solutions:
- Explain that the thousands from 1 thousand to 9 thousand, and the ten thousands are from 10
and above.

Lesson Schedule

Engage (warm up, review prior knowledge): time:15 min


T will use base 10 blocks to introduce the 5 digits of place value.
T will focus on explaining the new place value which is ten thousand.
The T will use model strategies, the she will engage S to attempt to do the 5 digit place value.

Core (introduce and practice new concepts & procedures): 20 min


The T will place the big place value house on the floor.
T will Write the number on the board, for example 76328.
Then she will give each student flashcard that has number written on it.
T will explain for S that they have to stand on the correct place based on the number that written on
the board, For example the student who has number 7 should stand on ten thousand.
High students: will do the ten thousand numbers
Low students: will be given the ones, tens and hundred.

Close (wrap up, discussion, brief review activity or assessment): 10 min


High students: T will give S the place value house, and flashcard that has numbers of 5 digit written on
it.
Low students: T will give S the place value house, and flashcard that has numbers of 4 digit written on
it.
