In my teaching practicum, I implanted art lesson plan related to music and movement

perform for five little monkeys song with kg 2- A students. I took a group of 7

children, five of them are girls and two boys aged between 4 to 5, my MST suggested me

to choose those children because they are auditory learners and active. (look at figure 3,4

and 5)

There are two main reasons for chose five little monkeys song to apply with group

of learners. Firstly, because its support children with the current unit of math subject

which is about counting with sample numbers thence; I and my MST diced to choose

five little monkeys" because it assists children to achieved LO of the unity and to

support children in mathematical development skills such as counting abilities by

counting the monkeys and one to one corresponding skill through match number with

quantity correctly. For example, when they singed two little monkeys they understood

number 2 meaning two monkeys thence; they learned and had fun at the same time.

Secondly, because the benefits of engaging children in movement and music activity,

through research and read I realized how important to teach and involved children in

different kind of arts activities. As stated in Supporting Creativity and Imagination book,

Duffy considered the art is assist children to develop their language by having the

vocabulary to describe and comment on what they do. For example, in Five little

monkeys song children learned some movement words such as jump, call, and fall.

(Duffy, 2006, p. 8). Arts activities are provided different learning styles, as we know each

person has a unique way to learn. For example, my project contains VAK learning styles,

visual when I showed children the video song, so they will learn the actions by watched,

auditory when they heard the song and kinetic when they move their bodies to imitate the
3

movements happened. According to Duffy he believes that the way in which our

perceptions are turned into images, stored and used, will depend on the

individual. (Duffy, 2006, p. 21). In addition, art encourages children thinking,

imagination and explore by increasing their opportunities to make new connections and

reach new understandings by using their background and applied it in new situation. For

instance, when student implemented art project they used their background about

numbers and applied it by singed. As declared in the Waldorf method that stimulates

creative thinking and imagination in children. ("ECE 2503," n.d., p. 9). Furthermore,

its assist children to develop their skills for their life such as listening skill through

noticing changes in tempo or pitch and heard five little monkeys song, emotional skills

through they express their feeling and imitate the movements and develop their fine and

motor skills when they move their small and big muscle. (Kaiser, n.d) For example, when

the children were jumping they were developed their motor skill. According to Waldorf

said, music and movement give children a sense of achievement and allow them to learn

more complex skills later in life. ("ECE 2503," n.d., p. 9).

There are two problems I faced it when I did my project, one of problem is a shortage

of time that hindered me to complete my project because I cant take them out from their

classes result of that I discuss with MST to find solution to do my project and she

suggested me to take them in Monday and Wednesday just 10 marinates from art lesson

and I followed her advice and I took them two days in the week in activity room. The

other issue is some children are refused to took monkeys role, when I asked them who

want to do monkey role three of them refused because they thought they will be like a
4

monkey and one of them named Hala she side am not animal that really shocked

me!! but I was deal with this situation by discuss with them and explained the monkey

role of them by said monkey is a friendly animal and we are, not monkeys but we will

act like it by jumping only and I observed they respond and agree to took monkey role

but Fatima she still rejected as consequences I used Positive reinforcement approach

with her. For example, I told her if you participate with us and take monkey role I will

give star, and its worked with her and she change her mind quickly. According to

Skinner he believes positive reinforcement strengthens a behavior by providing a

consequence individual finds rewarding. (McLeod, 2015).

During art lesson, I observed the children were so happy to come in front of class to

dance and present the song, they loved to work with their friends, and at the same time

they were practice and achieved LO. When I requested children to perform the five little

monkeys song I felt they didnt understood which movements they have to do when

they hear specific part, that made me upset; therefore, I tried to apply Albert Bandura

approach by modeled the movement of each part in front of them. For example, when I

sing jumping on the bed I jumped, so the children will realize the word jump with

action they saw it and its really worked with them and I actually found its better for

children to show them example instead of given instructions. (Shirley & Peter, 2011, p.

53). Furthermore, think that I was able to show student accountability and make learning

visible by document children work through used checklist, take photos, observe their

skills and writing notes about their understood and achieved LO (look at figure 1,2).

According to Reggio Emilia documentation principals, it's believed that teachers use
5

documentation to identify strengths, ideas, and next steps to support learning. ("What Is

the Reggio," 2018). I believe that children get the concept of the unite and achieved the

LO in interested way. According to Sama Amacrine School curriculum the learning

objective of math unite for week 6 are name the numbers from one to five, match

quantity of the object to the number that corresponds to volume and start understanding

counting operation with sample numbers from one to five. ("Curriculum," 2017). I

recognized that when I heard all of them had ability to name number 1 to 5 when they

singed. Also, when I assessed them they were able to match the number with the quantity

of movements. For example, when I asked Ibrahim to domesticate number 5 he clapped

his hand 5 times.

Musical and movement lesson is supported children with structural creativity areas

according to Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum, they promatined areas

which involoved social and emotion area when the children expressed their felling which

enchase children to have self-confidence and when they participated with other children

to did the activity. Additionally, they developed communication and language aspect

through build up vocabulary that reflects the breadth of their experiences. For instance,

they will gather words from my instructions and song such as, monkeys, fall, bed, jump,

and call. Furthermore, they developed knowledge and understanding of the world

domains by understanding how to operate simple equipment. For example, when I

provided phone the children comprehend the phone used for calling. Moreover, they

advanced their creativity aspect when they imitate the movement in response to music,
6

sing the five little monkeys song and by used sequence of senses and movement. (n.d.,

pp. 3, 5, 8, 11, 12,).
