Proposal and Marketing Plan

Aperture Sciences Best Opportunity

For Testing Center Expansion
PROJECT SUMMARY

In short, this project seeks to expand the testing center to support the growing research

department. The testing center in its current state is inadequate for the influx of new experiments

and has lead to overcrowding of the testing chambers. Outlined below are the major components

of the expansion:

The construction of 50 new test chambers.

The renovation of the existing 100 test chambers.

The acquisition of 200 new Researchers.

INTRODUCTION

Our testing center at Aperture Science is the companys most valued resource. We

have learned more from the Human Enrichment and Testing Initiative than with any other

program Aperture Laboratories has conjured up. Our company has expanded due to the success of

our findings, and we must direct funding back into the research that has brought our company

such success. After testing and researching products as successful as Mobility Gels and the

Handheld Portal Device, it is clear that the testing center has much to offer and it would be

unwise not to invest in its future potential. This proposal outlines the best way to go about

funding and expanding the Aperture Science testing facilities, and furthering the work of the

Human Enrichment and Testing Initiative.

RATIONALE AND SIGNIFICANCE

Expanding the testing center has the potential to greatly aid in the companys growth as a

whole. Having more research subjects will allow the team to explore more areas of research than

ever before. This could lead the team to making great new discoveries. Also with the addition of

more research subjects, the stress of the tests could be reduced for each individual subject,

leading to a higher retention rate for test subjects and thus reducing costs. Expanding the center

will allow the addition of newer and better equipment. Having better equipment will result in

more accurate results and an increase in time efficiency. Implementing this new and exciting

change will also result in increased morale for workers, which will greatly benefit the work flow

within the company.

PLAN OF WORK

Make no mistake, expanding the testing center will be no small undertaking. The sheer

size of the department in its current state is unmatched by any other division of the company.

Expanding upon this already massive department will demand close adherence to the following

plan of work.

The expansion of the center will take place in three equally important parts.

1. The construction of 50 new testing chambers using the revised blueprints

2. The renovation of the existing 100 test chambers to meet the standards of the new

improved test chambers.

3. The acquisition of 200 new Aperture science researchers to oversee the new testing

chambers.

Outlined below are the specifics for achieving these goals.

Constructing the new improved test chambers will likely be the most labor-intensive part of

the expansion. The contractors tell us that they will be able to construct the chambers at a rate of

one chamber per week while still adhering to proper safety and inspection procedures. However,

for an additional 20% on labor costs we can streamline the construction by skipping the safety

procedures. Skipping the safety procedures is expected to lower the construction time to four days

per chamber.

3
These new test chambers offer many improvements over the originals including but not limited

to:

Improved pyrotechnic capabilities

Advanced mobility gel dispensers

New total coverage surveillance equipment

Renovating the existing test chambers is perhaps the most exciting part of the plan. As you

know, the original test chambers were designed with future renovations in mind. All of the

original test chamber walls are designed to be removable using a medium sized flat head

screwdriver and a little elbow grease. Due to the foresight of the original designers, we expect the

renovations to be completed at a rate of three per week!

TASK BREAKDOWN

1. Inform Employees of impending changes

2. Design schematics for the expansion

3. Determine needed equipment and materials

4. Research and hire needed workers for expansion

5. Relocate the research team, equipment, and test subjects to a temporary space

6. Begin and oversee construction

7. Monitor progress and budget

8. Relocate the research team to the new space, upon completion of the expansion

PROBLEM ANALYSIS

There are a few problems standing in the way of the new testing facility. These questions should

be considered while planning the renovation.

How much will this renovation cost?

Will this renovation exceed the budget proposed?

What company will be the cheapest, yet most reliable and efficient to tackle this

renovation?

How long will our original testing center be inaccessible?

How many projects is the renovation interfering with?

Will more property need to be purchased to expand the center?

BUDGET (COST PROPOSAL)

Apertures testing center expansion budget request: $100,000,000

What we need How much per Time we need How many we Total

one them need

Contractors $20,000/25 3 years 50 $2,080,000/y

Our engineers $130,000 3 years 25 $6,500,000/y

Experienced $130,000 ALAP(as long 50 $6,500,000/y

Scientist as possible)

7
Inexperienced $78,000 ALAP 150 $11,700,000/y

Scientist

New testing $10000 ALAP 50 $500,000

Chamber Parts

Total/year 27,280,000/y

We decided that to complete this expansion we request $100,000,000. We want to

hire contractors to work on the new 50 test chambers, by doing this we can save 10%

more of our budget than hiring from the inside because we can hire the contractors as a

group which would be a lower rate. By coupling one of Apertures engineers with a

contractor we can cut cost for the remaining 100 existing testing chambers that need

renovations. Also, by hiring contractors we do not need to provide health insurance or

any legal cost due to the contractors being in a contract stating as such. To save cost and

lose time, we decided that we should keep the safety and inspection procedures and just

give up time instead, by doing this we save the company a lot of money in the long-term

and have more money in our budget to expand more of the faculty. Hiring the scientist

will cost the most, out of our budget. What we proposed to do to save as much money as

possible is to hire 50 experienced scientist and hire 150 inexperienced scientist. By doing

this we not only stay within our budget we also have scientist that could potentially work

for our company for 40+ years.

If we can stay on target meaning the new chambers, the renovated chambers and

the hiring scientist are all accomplished within the time frame, our expansion should be

completed within 3 years, and we will stay within the budget requested. If we dont make

schedule and go over the allotted time and have to hire more workers or if workers get

injured or sick, we will also have to go over budget by at least 15% which can set back

our scheduled time of completion. Below is our budget and how much everything will

cost.

CONCLUSION

In short, backing and funding this program would be extremely profitable for Aperture.

Despite its relatively high price tag, in the end there would be no better way for Aperture Science

to spend its budget. The Testing Center has been Aperture Sciences most astoundingly profitable

venture yet, and there is much more to be made. The team selected for this project is among

Apertures best, and they all share a passion for the work that will ensue. Please considering

reaching out to us and pursuing our plan for testing center expansion.
