My class is a print rich environment that includes a lot of printed stuff such as ;
1. Instructions about correcting math and English books.

2. Instructions of how to use the fire drill.

3. Instructions of what to do during an earthquake and emergency lockdown

procedures.

4. Timetable of the lessons in the class such as Arabic, Islamic, English, Music,

PE, science, Math, morning break and lunchtime.

5. Map that shows the school classrooms, Muster points, Grass Area, Gates, car

park, toilets and stairs.

7. Headings and their examples such as; Capital letters, Finger Space, Full stop,

Question Mark, Exclamation Mark, Inverted commas and commas.

8. Quotes such as:

Reading is to mind what exercise is to the body Sur Richard Steele

Describe the reading area in your classroom.

1. We have a reading area in the classroom and it includes different stories and

books that talk about animals, objects, phonics, plants and planets.

2. Stories and books are organized on the shelf.

3. The story area includes quotes in the wall carpet and cushions.

Describe a phonics lesson you observed. How does the teacher teach word attack
skills to children? Mention how the children are scaffolded to recognize the word
and get the meaning?
Step one:
Using different phases to scaffold phonics (flash cards)

1. Low: phase 3

2. Medium: phase 5

3. High: Phase 6

Step two:
Example:
1. Re Call the letters: oy

2. Missing letter:( B _ _ ) By using the white board and black marker (Each

student should write)

3. Write a similar word (Toy and Joy)

Consider different reading approaches have you observed?

Guided reading
- Separate students into 4 groups and each group are doing different things
(Reading area, 2 writing activities and guided reading)
- Teacher is giving each student the chance to read a page and she start asking
them a questions about the storybook:
1. Author
2. Describe the cover
3. Describe characters of the story
4. Asking questions about the story

Silent Reading

1. Choosing a book from the story Shelfs.

2. Sitting in the carpet quietly and read individually.

- After reading teacher ask students to write why they pick up this book

- Write a review of the book

Describe some types of writing activities or the method the teacher uses for
writing e.g. emergent writing, copy writing, dictations, etc.

Grade 3:
Dictations: Teacher is writing three words in the board and students are searching

about the definitions of the words by using the dictation individually, and then

students should write the new words and the definitions in their books.

Copy writing: Teacher shows students a text in the board about sugar the cat,

students are going to read it all together as a whole class and then they are going to

copy it in their books.

After the Task - Reflection

We define literacy as the process of using reading, writing, and oral language to

extract, construct, integrate, and critique meaning through inter action and

involvement with multimodal texts in the context of socially situated

practices(Frankel et al, 2016). However, my best practice number one was guided

reading because the teacher starts asking students questions about the story so, this

can help students to share ideas and opinions with others, the teacher also provides

different activities for other students such as; writing and reading activities which

helps them to develop their knowledge in the classroom. My best practice number two
was using dictations as a writing activity so, the teacher was writing some words in

the boards and then she asks students to search individually about the definitions by

using dictations and then they have to write it in their books, this strategy can improve

the independence of each student. Moreover my best practice number three was silent

reading lesson, so the teacher asks students to choose a book individually from the

story section and they all were sitting on the carpet reading the stories quietly, the

teacher also ask them to write a review about the story which is can provide students

with strong personalities in the future, which is can affect positively to the students

learning and reading levels in the primary class.
