Running Head: NURSING PHILOSOPHY 1

My Nursing Philosophy

NURSING PHILOSPHY 2

Outline

Personal Philosophy of Nursing:

- As nurses, we are required to give unbiased and uncompromised care to all patients,

regardless of race, background, religion, or other factors. We must know and recognize

that regardless of our upbringing or how different individual beliefs are, at our core we

are all human beings who want and deserve care and respect. Because of this belief, I

chose to base my nursing philosophy on Jean Watsons Theory of Human Caring. This

theory discusses the humanistic need to be nurtured, respected, cared for, and understood.

This philosophy must translate into our practice as nurses in order to effectively care for

and appreciate the diversity of the human race.

- Providing unbiased nursing care is a continual struggle for people both now and in the

future because in order for nurses to do that, we must acknowledge that we have personal

biases of our own that influences the care we deliver.

Artistic Expression:

- I chose to create a poster board for my creative portion of this project. In the center it has

the word nursing written in gold font, representing the high standard that all nurses are

held to regarding the holistic and individual care they provide their patients every day.

- In broken and torn off pieces, there is a watercolor painting glued to the poster board.

The fragments are meant to represent the different types of patients you might encounter.

A woman in labor about to have her first child. An older gentleman with dementia. A

young child with cancer. The different watercolors that have been mixed and painted

further represent the diversification of patients, even within the same fragmented group.
NURSING PHILOSPHY 3

- The white paper that the watercolor painting is on represents all people as human beings.

Although all of the different pieces are based on the same white sheet of paper, each

looks vastly different from the next, representing the diversity in even the most similar of

cultural groups.

- The gold glitter that evenly covers the entirety of the poster board is congruent with the

gold font that Nursing is written in. Nurses must provide and care for each patient

equally and without bias, making sure to not simply concentrate on one group or culture.

Nursing and the compassion it requires should be seen in all environments and in every

aspect of patient care, regardless of background.

Goals for my Future Nursing Practice:

- Care for each of my patients holistically and without bias

- Ensure that my patients needs are fulfilled to the greatest of my ability

- I hope to continue my education further and continue to be a lifelong learner in order to

continually provide the best care I can offer.
