Educational Film With the advance of Science & Technology, motion picture, movie or films came to us as the blessing or boon to the modern world. The films made for the purpose of educating children are called Educational Film. Every film gives children a way to see the world from another persons view point i.e The Producers. Historical development of Educational film Educational cinematography began developing immediate invention of the motion picture camera by the 2 brothers L.J Lumiure & A. Lumiure in 1895. The 1st Educational Film was made in France in 1898. The production of Educational Film began in USA in 1908 with Tomas Alva Edisons film flypaper. In 1920s to 1930s experimental research was conducted & special centers were organized likes Central Bureau of Educational Film in Great Britain & Italy. Modern development of Educational Film In 1920, in Norway, France & Hungary Educational Film were produced. Large scale experiment was conducted at Yale University, USA. In 1922, studied the effect of series of film on pupils knowledge. In Russia, the 1st educational film was shown in St. Petersburg in 1897 and after October revolution (1917) the film laboratories was established in Moscow in 1930. In 1940s, Educational Film have been produced for all courses in Secondary Schools & Institution of Higher Education. Purpose of Educational Film To stimulate the sense organs of children especially audio-visual sensation. To stimulate their imagination and vision. Help to create personal opinion. To establish relationship between the real world & own vision. To improve quality education. To sharp the cognitive aspects of learning. Help to educate the children with special need. Function of Educational Film Educational film offers diverse themes, messages with composition of sound & visual universes. Which is important to a childs education and help to develop taste. It also allows the children to build personal opinion and to know what they like & dislike. It develops a childs intellectual level by which a child begin to distinguish between the external world & their imagination. Types of Educational Film Documentary film, Short film, Thematic film, Children film, Artistic film, Historical film, Discovery film, Animated film, Documentary film Documentary films as well as films based on fiction are very instructive due to their informational content. They allow children to discover new universes or they even see something they already know in the new light & experience. In documentary films whether they are about the animals, the earth or even history, geography, science, music & paintings. Short films Parents or Teachers can search for a free educational film. Many of them are short films for the children for the short period projection with a time limit like 15 mins, 30 mins, 45 mins etc. It can build their real life experience including scientific & artistic representation of those things. Indian Scenario In India, in 1960s motion picture production was initiated but multicolor motion picture came to be existed later on. In 1985, Indira Gandhi National Open University for the 1st time developed multimedia approach in Education as the strong device of ODL method of education. They operate Gyandarshan Educational Channel & Cassette library of Educational film. Present scenario The HRD established Educational film production unit where the film experts work for quality production of educational film. Every year, International Children & Educational Film Festival are organized for projection of contents of Educational Film. The film division is responsible for production of Educational & Documentary films in different languages. Conclusion Educational Film is one of the strongest method to disseminate various contents to the young kids. It stimulates at a time various sense organs & can build a creative & dynamic mind of the children.
