Standard #1

Demonstrates ability to enhance academic performance and support for implementation

of the school districts student achievement goals.

Communicates with students, families, colleagues, and communities effectively and

accurately.

Article: In order to meet this standard, I would send emails to the parents/guardians of

students to inform them of school and classroom related events. These may include

grades, behavior issues, school festivals, home activities, etc. This way, parents/guardians

may be notified quicker and will better understand their students classroom experiences.

Standard #2

Demonstrates competence in content knowledge appropriate to the teaching position.

Understands and uses instructional strategies that are appropriate to the content area.

Article: To demonstrate competence and apply instructional strategies, I could use

PowerPoint presentations or instructional videos to introduce the next unit. This way the

students can get a feel for the material before diving into it. Some appropriate

instructional strategies could include using manipulatives, like blocks or fake money, and

writing problems on the board step by step to show how it works.

Standard #3

Demonstrates competence in planning and preparing for instruction.

Uses available resources, including technologies, in the development and sequencing of

instruction.

Article: In my classroom observation, the students use iPads for most of the assessment

type activities instead of using paper assignments to check their progress. Dream Box and

Easy Math are the two programs primarily used for assessment. iPads, smart Boards, and

headphones are used on a daily basis, and I would like to use them in a class of my own.

Standard #4

Uses strategies to deliver instruction that meets the multiple learning needs of students.

Demonstrates flexibility and responsiveness in adjusting instruction to meet student

needs.

Article: During a math lesson, subtracting and adding within 20 for example, multiple

methods and objects can be used by students. These include manipulatives, white board

and marker, and practicing with flash cards. I have seen all of these methods work

effectively in a classroom. This gives the students the opportunity to see how they learn

best.

Standard #5

Uses a variety of methods to monitor student learning.

Provides substantive, timely, and constructive feedback to students and parents.

Article: For this standard, I could send an email to parents/guardians as well. Providing

constructive feedback on their students work, while also discussing any negativity or

problems in class. The goal will not be to get the student in trouble, only to reach out a

helping hand and develop a partnership to ensure the students success.

Standard #6

Demonstrates competence in classroom management.

Establishes, communicates, models, and maintains standards of responsible student

behavior.

Article: I have found that putting posters or pictures on the walls of the classroom will

grab a students attention. Hang up posters that list class rules and expectations, also with

how to deal with certain situation. If an

incident were to occur, the teacher can ask

the student what the rules are or how they

should have handled something, and they can

look at the posters to remind themselves in

the future.

Standard #7

Engages in professional growth.

Works collaboratively to improve professional practice and student learning.

Asking for help is not always the easiest thing to do, but the expertise of others is the

perfect thing to get you out of that rut. Communicating and cooperating with your fellow

teachers and coworkers is so important. You can learn so much from them, especially if

they have been teaching longer than you have. You can find new ways of doing and

looking at things, which will help you better understand and advance in your career.

Standard #8

Fulfills professional responsibilities established by the school district.

Demonstrates professional and ethical conduct as defined by state law and district policy.

Article: A good way to meet this standard is to first follow the rules of FERPA, the

Family Education Rights to Privacy Act. Revealing sensitive information about a student

to anyone outside of the school or their parent/guardian can result in serious

consequences. Being professional first and fore most means following the rules.
