To increase the

using of creative
activities in
lessons.
Goal 3 In 2017, during Semester 7 teaching practice, I will positively verbally apply
creative activities with 50% of Umm Al-Qura students in class during
English lessons.
Rational Believes
1. As a primary school teacher, I think that students need creative
activities to break the routine of the regular classes. I believe that
if I apply creative activities, I will be able to attract the students
to the lesson which will contribute in increasing their
understanding abilities.
2. As a primary school teacher, I believe that creative activities will
help students in accepting the English class more. If they accept
the subject, they will make more effort in attending the classes,
studying and doing homework. And this will reflect positively on
their language development.
3. Combining between creativity and hard lessons is the key to
simplify the information. If the students feel that the information
is simple, and they learn it by playing or applying fun activities,
they will remember this activity and the information will stick in
their minds.
4. I think that grade 1 students need to use their five senses while
learning any information because they need to connect things
together. So, in applying a creative activity about fruits, I can let
the students draw a fruit, touch, taste, hear people talking about
the benefits of fruits.
5. As a teacher, I think that creativity will help in giving a variety of
activities that match each learning style; auditory, visual and
kinesthetic.
6. Students like to create things and play while learning. Making the
learning process fun will reflect positively on the students
feeling. They will feel motivated, happy and comfortable while
learning. I think that teacher should care about the enjoyment of
the students while learning. Especially, in small grades, its hard
to let them feel motivated at the whole class, so, adding creativity
will help in increasing the motivation of the students.
Justification
1. According to Starko (2005), its important to weave creative thinking
into content area instruction, and to organize basic classroom
activities (grouping, lesson planning, assessment, grading) in ways
that support students' creativity. Supporting students creativity will
develop their critical thinking and their ability of problem solving
because of the skills that the brain gain from the practicing of
creative activities.
2. Creativity is a critical factor that teachers should employ in their
lessons. The definitions of creativity related to the process were:
producing something new and different, using your imagination, and
creating your own style. The learners can contribute in giving the
teacher ideas about how they can be engaged in this particular
activity. From my point of view, students play a significant role in
selecting the type of the activities in the classroom not only the
teacher. According to De (2000), most students agreed that they have
opportunities to develop their creativity in the classroom. They
identified mathematics activities, writing lab, arts/ drawing, reading,
science activities and, free time as the most creative moments in their
classrooms.
3. EDU 4103, Managing Innovation and Change theory written by
Henry, Mayle and Open University (2002), Managing Innovation
and Change in all fields besides the Education department help in
verifying the way of thinking that can assist in developing the level
of the intelligence and the brain.
4. I have received MST and MCT feedback from previous TP that
mentioned that Im very formal and boring in my activities. I dont
use creative activities, and I just distribute worksheets or depends on
the activity book to evaluate the students understanding. This
feedback has details that show that I was losing my time in marking
books only. I was teaching Math, and my MST mentioned that all
core subjects need creativity, and this will reduce the misbehaving
because if they are not enjoying their class time and not getting
benefit from the lesson, they will not be engaged. (Appendix 4)

Competencies CLO2 - Plan, implement and evaluate lessons within the curriculum of
the teaching practicum setting.
1. Sub - outcome 1: Create lesson plans with learning outcomes and a
range of developmentally appropriate activities that meet
requirements of the practicum setting curriculum, and the needs and
interests of individuals and groups of learners.
2. Sub - outcome 2: Implement and justify differentiated planning that
caters for learners' needs and interests while taking into account
developmental, cultural, physical and social factors, and targeting
skills and concepts across the physical, cognitive, linguistic, and
social & emotional domains.
3. Sub - outcome 3: Engage with mentors in the cycle of planning,
implementing and evaluating activities and the production of
developmentally appropriate materials.
CLO3 - Utilise a range of effective teaching strategies and demonstrate
clear understanding of effective classroom/ learning management.
1. Sub - outcome 1: Implement both planned teaching tasks and
unplanned interventions using effective questioning and elicitation
techniques to motivate, engage and extend learners'' interest.
2. Sub - outcome 3: Use a variety of effective teaching/ learning
techniques that support the approach to teaching and learning
prescribed by the setting.
3. Sub - outcome 4: Use resources and equipment to effectively
support teaching and learning - including computers and other media
playing/ storage devices, a range of texts including big books, e-
books, story books, photo - books, media or computer - based texts,
and appropriate smart device applications.
4. Sub - outcome 7: Use classroom space to create learner - centered,
print - rich learning environment.
Implementation - In each class from week 1 to week 11, I will prepare one creative
activity at least that depends on the students working. For
example, coloring, creating puppets, acting, students centered
strategy, dancing, singing and create things with the clay.
- Request 1 peer observations
- Study the process of my level from the notes that I will write
about my lessons each day and what activities did I use to
support learning.

Evaluation I start applying this PDP goal at the last semester, and Im continuing with
the same method because it works very well. I worked on preparing creative
activities, at least in 2 stages from the 5es. For example, a creative activity
while exploring and evaluating the lesson.

During my classes, I used creative activities for supporting learning and

managing the classroom. I used the points, choosing the princess of the
class, giving gold, silver and bronze middle. And I noticed the difference in
the student's grades. They were getting high marks in the memorizing sheets
that I was given at the beginning of some classes as evidence that they still
remember some information from the previous classes.

I was focusing on applying storytelling classes. The students were able to act
the characters, change their sound while reading different characters, make
puppets, create characters by using different materials.

The students were also able to sing the appropriate sentences that include
morals. I noticed that when Im applying these activities instead of only
reading in a regular way, the students were able to remember the characters
and the morals that were in the story for a long time. I believe that when I'm
using creative activities, I involved the students in working by using their
five scenes to extend their thinking and be creative.

Moreover, when I was applying reading, guided session, I was asking them
to write a summary of the story. Then, I was asking each two students to
switch the papers and edit their peer paper. I consider this activity as a
creative activity because its teaching the students the basics of writing in a
new way which is the peer working. I noticed that when I apply these
strategies, students were engaged in the reading classes because it teaches
them how to read but in a different way.

I believe that the brain of the human need change and need to break the
routine if I use the traditional ways in teaching the students without any new
activities, they will lose the engagement.

At the previous semester, I applied a lesson about ants and spiders. Students
were able to create ants and spiders by using a cupcake, chocolate, and
chips. They should make a cupcake with a suitable number of legs and eyes
from the chocolate pieces. I can remember their reaction when they were
preparing their own ant and spider; they were enjoying their time.
However, the negative point of applying creative activities not coming from
me, but from my MST. She wants to finish the curriculum by giving the
lessons by lecturing, and not applying any creative activity. And this is
because this can take more time than the traditional classes, so, its hard to
apply a lot of activities in each class, so, I decided to apply only two creative
activities per class.
PDP Goal 3: To increase the using of creative activities in lessons.
Teaching Competencies: Tc 4 committed to implementing learning sub outcome 2 including
a range of student centered activities in the lesson.
Justification

1. Weaving creative thinking into content area instruction, and to organize basic classroom
activities is essential for learning (Starko, 2005).
2. Henry, Mayle and Open University (2002) informed that managing Innovation and Change in all
fields besides the Education department help in verifying the way of thinking that can assist in
developing the level of the intelligence and the brain.
3. Core subjects need creativity, so, the students are not misbehaving because they want to break the
routine and not having enough benefit from the lesson.

Implementation

- Creative activities support thinking and give a value to the classes.

- Prepare more creative activities that can help students make progress in their learning.
- Integrate more creative activities to develop students ability in learning.
- Focus on adding creative activities to give results in better long-term retention of
information.
Evidence
