LESSON SUMMARY/OVERVIEW
This lesson provides students with information on how to reduce their waste and help solve this serious
problem. They will be able to provide their own ways of helping diminish this problem by working
together in small groups.
OBJECTIVES

Students will be able to identify how to reduce food waste


Students will understand the importance of diminishing food waste

ASSESSMENT/EVALUATION
The students will work together in groups of 3-4 to come up with solutions to lower food waste. They will
create a poster full of their ideas that they will then present in front of the class.

PREREQUISITE KNOWLEDGE
Prior to this lesson, students need to know information about food waste and why it is important that we
work to fix this issue. They will use their knowledge of the issue and the different areas it affects to be
able to come up with creative ways to solve the issue.

Paper
Pencils/markers

TEACHING PROCEDURES

1. Teach students about food waste and all of the different aspects that it affects
2. Put students into groups
3. Give students time to research in their groups what can be done to help diminish the issues it
causes for the environment and individuals
4. Have students create a poster with all of their ideas
5. Have students present their poster to the class

WAYS OF THINKING CONNECTION


Students will be using futures thinking and strategic thinking for this activity and lesson. They will be
using strategic thinking because they are trying to find long term fixes to this issue instead of just short
term fixes. They will come up with a strategy or plan to achieve the idea of les food waste. They will also
be using futures thinking because they will be thinking about how this issue has affected the past and
present and how continuing to live this way will affect the future.
