Reading: To recognize the sound s at the beginning of words.
Writing: To copy and write the upper case letter S and lower case letter s.

Time: 15 min

- Letter S Song.

- Show the letter S flashcard to the learners. Model the letter S.


- Pick up a S letter and say: Sun
- Show the flashcards for sun and sea as you say the words and the learners repeat. Then tell
the class to open their books and look at Activity 1. Write the page number on the board
and put the flashcards of sea and sand on the board next to the sound s.

- Show the two flashcards and ask learners to repeat the words sun and sea while you are
holding them. Then ask: Whats the sound? Give learners time to try and answer before
saying the sound s.

Independent Experience (Whole class)

- Ask learners to trace over the letters in their Learners Book and say the sound sss as they
trace.
- They should say the sound as they write. Be sure they are saying a clear single sss sound
and not suh or the letter name.

- Write s in the air and then on the board
