Content
Activity Prior to this class, the teacher will have sent home a
letter asking the parents to allow their children to
bring in a mobile device to participate in the lesson,
as well as share that device with fellow classmates
who may not have one.
Those students who do not have a device, or are
unable to bring one in, will be able to share a
classmates once they have finished, or use one of
the few extras the teacher has provided.
This lesson will allow the students to learn how to
properly and neatly write the alphabet in both
uppercase and lowercase.
The teacher will assist the students in downloading

the app, Tracing Letters. Once the students have
the app downloaded, the teacher should download
it on their own personal device.

information and elaboration according to
the type of writing.
f) Include details that elaborate the main idea.
This lesson will allow the students to work with
others to create a mind map or bubble map to
organize their ideas for a collaborative research
paper.
(Note: This is not a paper-writing assignment, it is
just to allow the students to familiarize themselves
with bubble-mapping, in case they want to use it for
future papers.)
Although this is an English class, and the teacher will
be grading the prewriting process, the topic will be
on Inventors and Inventions.
The children will be split into groups of three, where
each child will get one inventor. It will be the
students job to research their inventor, and provide
information on the name of the invention, what it
does, when it was invented, why it was invented,
and where the inventor discovered it/invented it.

The students will begin by clicking the blue Start
button in the middle of the home page. The app will
bring them to a capital A. Using their index finger,
the students will trace over the grey area, following
the order of the numbers.
When one letter is finished, they will move on to the
next letter by clicking the green Next button in the
lower right-hand corner. (The teacher will assist the
students if they need help finding any of the
buttons.)
Once all the uppercase letters have been traced
over, the student will tap on the green ABC/abc
button on the bottom in the middle of the screen.
When all students have finished both the uppercase
and lowercase letters, the teacher will hand out a
letter worksheet for grading purposes.
The students will be expected to not only trace over
the letters, but write the letter on their own next to
the traced one. Once finished, the students will print
their first and last name on the bottom of the
worksheet and turn it in.
Using the Mindly app, one student will create a
new Mindly by tapping on the plus button. They
will then choose a color for the main bubble and
title it Inventors and Inventions.
From that bubble, the student will add his/her own
inventor bubble, and fill in the bubble with the color
of their choice, as well as the name of the inventor
they were assigned.
The student will then add a smaller bubble with the
name of the invention. From the Invention bubble,
the student will be able to add up to 4 bubbles.
These bubbles must have: what the invention does,
when it was invented, where it was invented, and
why it was invented.
When the first student has finished filling in the
information on their inventor, they can click the
arrow on the bottom right-hand corner of the screen
to share the Mindly via email.
Once the email has been sent to their group
members, the other children can open it in the
Mindly app and do the same thing for their
inventors.
Because the teacher is only grading the mind map
and the six bubbles each student should have
posted, the students will need to print out the mind
map and turn one copy in when finished.
