Subject: Math
Brief Description: Students will learn math through by participating in physical activities. They
will be learning how to add, subtract, and solve real life activities through games and movement.
Lesson objective: Learn how to add and subtract by incorporating fun and safe physical activity.
Lesson Summary: Students will start each lesson by working together to figure out how to
evenly divide into groups. Students will then stretch with their groups. Students will then
participate in a physical activity game(each week will be different) that challenges them to
answer math problems. The more they answer correct, the closer they get to winning.
Lesson 1 of Month 1
Summary of the Lesson: Students will be asked to separate into even groups. They will all be
asked a long addition question within their group. Whoever answers the problem first will be the
team leader. They will lead the stretch. Then students will play a game of Horse(basketball will
be needed). In order to have a shot at shooting into the basket and moving on, the student must

Lesson Summary: Students will pick a new partner every time. They will begin each lesson with
five minutes of getting to know one another. They will then share with the class what they
learned about their partner. After this, they will participate in an activity that forces them to work

Lesson summary: After students get to know their partner, have them write down on a post it

Brief Description: Students will discuss how they feel about certain topics relating to themselves
Lesson objective: Students will be given a lesson prompt. They will be asked to discuss a topic

Lesson Summary: Students will be given this writing prompt: When do I find myself getting
frustrated with myself or others? How can I release this frustration in a healthy way. Give the
students fifteen minutes to journal. Then have a few share with the class and write these ideas
on the board. Discuss healthy and unhealthy ways of releasing frustration and anger with the
class.

Month 4: Spiritual
Subject: Art
Topic: Peacefulness
Brief Description: Students will have 25 minutes to express themselves through art. They will
paint, draw, color, or build things that make them feel a sense of calmness. During this time, put
peaceful music on and encourage students to be calm, quiet, and respectful of one another.
Month 4: Lesson 1
Lesson Summary: Ask students to paint their favorite place. Encourage them to think about
what makes this place so great. Have them express this in their art. Display their artwork at the

Brief Description: Students will begin with a discussion. Then they will participate in an activity

Lesson Summary: Ask the students to write down everything that they consumed the day
before. Write out their answers on the board and ask them to determine which ones were
healthy and which ones were not. Then pass each student three food choices (print these out
before hand). Have the students determine which food are healthy/unhealthy and why.
Other topic ideas: Healthy breakfast, why being active is important, preventing obesity, and
eating out.
Lesson 6: Intellectual
Subject: Math
Topic: Brain
Brief Description: Students will exercise their brain through puzzles, and games.
Lesson objective: Students will test and exercise their brain through activities that make them

think.
Month 6: Lesson 1
Lesson Summary: Have students put together a jigsaw brain teaser(These need to be printed
before hand and cut up). If any students complete this within the ten minutes, give them a mini
prize.
Reflection
This curriculum map was based off of a 1st grade class. This class is designed to meet the
needs of diverse learners. These lessons are to be focused on during their month. Throughout
the year, we want to focus on healthy learning and enhancing all of the students experience. By
implementing these fun and informal lessons, students can grasp a healthy lifestyle and are
Each month we focus on something different. There are going to be students that will
grasp onto one idea and concept better than others. However, this is designed to meet the
month of activities, they can be the leaders and help the instructor to lead. They are also able to
still answer the problems and work with others. These health lessons encourage students to
stay healthy and make healthy lifestyle decisions. They are vital to todays education and should
be implemented in schools!
