What we are learning

This week in reading we will work on writing a summary for a nonfiction text we read as a way
to help determine the main idea and supporting details. We have been learning about verbs and
adverbs and will begin writing How To pieces. In math, we are improving our addition and
subtraction fact fluency and have been learning strategies for 2 and 3 digit addition with
regrouping. This week we will be learning about strategies to help with subtraction 2 and 3-digit
numbers. In social studies we will be learning about holidays around the world. In science we have
been learning about classifying animal groups and will begin learning about space.


Essential Questions

What text features can you identify in a non fiction book you are reading?
Explain how that text feature can help you understand what you are reading about.
What is the main idea of the text? paragraph? chapter?
Tell me details that support the main idea.
Can you use an adverb to describe a given verb?
