INTRODUCTION:
SOCCER (IN THIS REPORT, WE
WILL CALL IT FOOTBALL) IS A
VERY WELL-KNOWN SPORTS AND
IS PLAYED IN EVERY COUNTRY.
IT IS A SPORTS WHICH INVOLVES
THE USAGE OF FOOT FOR
KICKING BALL. LIKE EVERY
OTHER SPORTS, PLAYING
FOOTBALL EFFICIENTLY / WELL
REQUIRES SOME TECHNIQUES TO
OVERCOME OPPONENTS SKILL
AND STRATEGY. SOME OF THE
TECHNIQUES REQUIRES PURE
STRENGTH, BUT MOST OF THEM
REQUIRES AN UNDERSTANDING
TO PHYSICS CONCEPTS.
IN THE SECOND QUARTER, WE
LEARNED ABOUT NEWTONS
LAW OF MOTION AND
MOMENTUM AND IMPULSE IN
PHYSICS CLASS WHILE ALSO
LEARNING FOOTBALL IN P.E.
CLASS TOO. TO RELATE THESE
TWO CONCEPTS TOGETHER ISNT
A HARD THING AT ALL, SINCE
PHYSICS IS THE REASON OF
ALMOST EVERYTHING
HAPPENING IN OUR DAILY LIFE.
IN THE END, IF WE COULD
RELATE THESE TWO THINGS
TOGETHER, WE WOULD BE ABLE
TO UNDERSTAND MORE ABOUT
BOTH SUBJECT IN DEPTH.
IN THIS LAB REPORT, THOUGH
WE DIDNT DO ANY LAB OR
EXPERIMENT, WE ARE TRYING TO
USE PHYSICS CONCEPT THAT
WEVE LEARNED IN THE PHYSICS
CLASS TO APPLY INTO FOOTBALL
IN P.E. CLASS. WE ARE TRYING
TO UNDERSTAND THE REASONS
OF EACH SKILLS IN FOOTBALL
BY USING PHYSICS CONCEPT TO
SUPPORT THAT THE SKILL WE
WILL BE USING IS REASONABLE.
AT LAST, WE WOULD BE ABLE TO
BECOME BETTER AT BOTH
FOOTBALL AND PHYSICS.
OBJECTIVE
To play football correctly
To be able to relate the concept of
football to Physics
To use physics concepts for improving
how we play football and the other
way around.
To understand both subjects better by
relating them altogether.

procedure

Each team consists of 11 players. These are made up of


one goalkeeper and ten outfield players.
The outfield players are not allowed to use hand within
the game: only when the ball went out of the field and
needed to be tossed back.
To score, players need to kick the ball into the
opponents side of goal.
When a players hand touches the ball, the opposite side
will get to kick a free kick.
Player cant attack/push another player, else that player
will get a foul.
Put the ball in the center of the field at the start of the
game and after scoring, then each team will send one
player to start the game.

Result
First Lesson: Learning how to kick the
ball forward and how to control the ball
with left and right foot then both feet
while running in the same time.
We tried to control the ball with only one
foot and it appears that the ball is way

harder to control when using only one
leg. This teach us that we should use
both feet to control the ball.
Second Lesson: Trying to send a ball to
friend.
To pass the ball, we use the side of our
feet to push the ball away in the
direction we aimed. The hardest part is
the aiming: you have to set your foot in a
certain angle to the ball.
Third Lesson: Starting to aim and kick
the ball to the crossbar.
When kicking, our toes should be
pointing down toward the ground and
dig up the ball up to hit the crossbar.
Most of us accidentally did it wrong:
used the tip of the toe kicking the lower
part of the ball instead of digging up
from the ground.

Fourth Lesson onward: Playing
football game with friends in the whole
by diving into three groups.
We combined all of the skills we learned
to use in the game. We did pretty well on
using the skills learned and combining
5 all of them, but there are still mistakes
like foots angling when passing ball to
friend.

Common mistake we made:


Using the tip of the toe to pass the ball
instead of using the side of foot
Using the hand to touch the ball when
the ball is flying toward.
Analysis
When we catch the ball, we should roll with the
ball to reduce its impulse because impulse =
fT, so if you roll with the ball and increase the
time in contact, then the force would
decrease.
We cannot use our hand to push the ball
because if we use hand who will kick the ball
and it also breaks the rule. Furthermore, when
you kick the ball you insert more force to the
ball because humans leg are usually stronger
than humans hand, so more force means more
speed and momentum
If the players who not play good enough, they
should practice how to kick the ball with the
correct way.

Linear Motion
This relates to the acceleration: the players need to
follow the player who have the ball. They run and stop
all the time, so the players are accelerating constantly
because they change the velocity during the game.

All Newtons Law


First Law:
The first law is that the object will not move until there is
an external force acting on the object. This is an
equivalent to the football which stays in rest in the
middle of the field got kicked by the player. After
kicking, the ball will stay in motion unless acted on by
an external force like friction of the field.

Second Law:
The second law relates to how the football could
accelerate fast. Since the acceleration is directly
proportional to force applied, the football will accelerate
more when we kick the ball harder.

Third Law:
The third law is that every action, there is a pair of equal
reaction force with opposite direction known as action
and reaction forces. The action force is the force that we
use to kick the ball and the reaction force is the force
that the ball push back to the players foot.

Momentum & Impulses
Momentum:
Momentum is the property of every moving object.
Momentum in football is obviously present since the
football is moving. The momentum of the flying football
is calculated by the mass of the football and its velocity
when moving through the air. With enough impulse, the
ball will travel with higher velocity, thus with more
momentum.

Impulse:
Impulse is the force apply over a period of time. We
write impulse as Ft or Force * Time. The net of the goal
and also the Goal keeper use this concept to stop the
ball by applying impulse to the ball. The player kicking
the ball use this concept to shoot the goal by applying
an appropriate amount of force within an appropriate
amount of time to make it travel in a desired distance.
conclusion
From the discussion part, it shows that these physics

methods are directly related to football. Although

sometimes the method is not really the same to the

real life, but it is close enough and we can apply the

method into the real situation. We can use these

information as our references to improve our football

skills like predicting the amount of force or the right

angles to make the ball goes to the way that we want

or knowing the cause of the indication like from the

newtons third law which is about action and reaction,

we might feel a bit hurt when we kick the ball. It is

because of the reaction force from the ball to our foot.

These can show that physics is the real basic of the

science and it is also useful for our lives and make

things easier.
recommendation

In order to apply physics to football,


not only the player need to be
excellent player that can control the
ball, but also understand physics as
well because if you cant control the
ball then physics knowledge is
pointless and if you dont understand
physics then youll have a hard time
catching the ball or even shooting it.
In the future lesson, we should
consider more about these physics
method / concepts for being better
at playing football.
