Dear Friend,
Greetings to you on this beautiful day! Everything the Lord Jesus did was
to enable us to be brought into fellowship with Him. He fulfilled every prophecy so
He could be called by us, "Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us."
God desired to be with us so He came in the likeness of human flesh, took our sins
and griefs upon Himself, and nailed it all to the cross, so that we could be delivered
from the haunting sense of guilt and shame! Regardless of your past, no matter what
has happened to you along the pathway of life, the Lord Jesus made it possible to
have a new life, a new start, a new outlook!
One of my favorite stories in the Bible is that of the shepherds abiding in the
fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. They were common people. The Bible
doesn't even name them. But that never stopped God from visiting them! The night
must have been really dark because when the angel of the Lord came upon them, the
Bible says in Luke 2:9, "And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the
glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid." Our
perception is very limited. That great host of angels, led by the Almighty God
Himself, hasn't gone anywhere. They are still just beyond human comprehension.
They are only revealed to us if the Lord chooses. When we pray, there is still a glory
that outshines the sun! There is still a kingdom of heaven that is just beyond our
eyesight. These common shepherds were in the right place at the right time, for it was
the time of the coming of the Lord! I love to go to church because it places me in a
position of receiving an experience from the Lord. He could choose to answer my
prayers Sunday morning. But what if He chooses to speak to me Sunday night? Or
Wednesday night? Or any other night? I decided long ago to be in the right place at
the right time, and God has blessed me and my family!
The angel did not come without a message for these shepherds. "And the angel
said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy. which
shall be to all people." So these good tidings are not for a select few. These tidings
are for all people, including you! When you are struggling or feeling left out and
alone, or disrespected and trying to get ahead in life, the Bible message is clearly sent
for your sake as well! "For unto you is born this day in the city of David a
Saviour, which is Christ the Lord."
The angel then told them what to look for: a babe wrapped in swaddling
clothes, laying in a manger. It doesn't say, but it may have taken them a while to find
this little family. There were many coming and going at that time. But they searched
until they found Him! Are you searching for Him? Or have you given up, thinking
you cannot find Him whom your soul loves? There is a beautiful verse of Scripture
found in Acts 17:27. The apostle Paul was introducing people to "the unknown God,"
and said these words, "That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel
after Him, and find Him, though He be not far from every one of us." God is
never very far away from you! A song writer said, "He's as close as the mention of
His name." That is true. Jesus made it possible for each of us to have a personal
relationship with God, for He took our sins away. He received the punishment for
every broken commandment, and He took out of the way the ceremonial sacrifices
that kept all Gentiles out of the true presence of God. He is the light of the Gentiles,
and the glory of Israel!
"And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host
praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good
will toward men." Though violence fills the land, hatred consumes many people,
thefts and wickedness found on every hand, yet God still has good will toward men.
The peace the angel spoke about is to set man at one with God again. We caused the
rift between us and God, yet it was God who took the necessary steps to remove the
hindrances and the separation between us. His desire to fellowship His creation was
greater than any desire for vengeance or retribution. The Lord Jesus satisfied divine
judgment by willingly laying His life down for His friends (us). If anyone questions
why God doesn't do something about the wickedness in the world, tell them He
already has: He died for the sins of all humanity so we could be reconciled to Him!
So there He was, a babe, born in a town called Bethlehem during a very
inconvenient taxing period, raised in obscurity, fulfilled every Scripture written of
Him, died on a cruel cross for our sins, rose from the dead, and is now seated on the
right hand of the Majesty on high, ever living to make intercession for us according to
the will of God. Yes, Christmas time is special, for we celebrate this great Man's
coming into the world. A perfect human whose life brings light to all who receive
Him. His love is expressed to you today, with desire that you would turn to Him and
receive it. If you do, you will never be the same!
I invite you to our church. Our schedule of services is Sunday at 10 am and 7
pm, and Wednesday at 7:30 pm. From everyone at our church we wish you a Merry
Christmas and a Happy New Year! May God bless you "more abundantly!"
Sincerely,

Rev. Daniel Bossidy
