Course Objectives :
To understand the characteristics of Operational Amplifier.
To design the linear and non-linear applications of operational amplifiers.
To design and construct applications of 555 timer and PLL.
To understand and design of ADC and DAC.
To study about special purpose integrated circuits.

Expected Course Outcome :


The students will be able to
Understand the terminal characteristics of op-amps and design /analyse
fundamental circuits based on op-amps.
Analyse feedback and its effect on the performance of op-amp.
Design and analyse various applications using op-amps and IC 555.

Module:1 Op-Amp Characteristics 4 hours SLO: 1


Op-Amp equivalent circuits, ideal Op-Amp, Op-Amp DC characteristics & AC characteristics,
non-ideal Op-Amp characteristics.

Module:2 Linear Op- Amp Circuits 8 hours SLO: 1,2


DC and AC amplifiers, summing, scaling, and averaging amplifiers, Instrumentation amplifiers,
I/V and V/I converter, Integrator, Differentiator, Differential amplifiers. Op-amp with negative
feedback: voltage series, voltage shunt feedback amplifier.

Module:3 Op-Amp Applications using Diodes 4 hours SLO: 1,2


Logarithmic Amplifiers, Rectifiers, Peak detection and voltage Regulation

Module:4 Comparators and Waveform Generators 7 hours SLO: 1,14


Comparator and its applications, Schmitt trigger, Free-running, One-shot multivibrators,
Barkhausen criterion, Sine wave generators, Phase-shift, Wein-bridge oscillators, Square,
Triangular and Saw-tooth wave function generator.

Module:5 Active Filters 7 hours SLO: 1,14


Filter Classifications, Frequency and Impedance Scaling, First and second order Low-pass and
High pass filter designs, Band-pass filter, Notch filter.

Module:6 PLL and Timers 7 hours SLO: 1,2


PLL-Phase detector, comparator, VCO, Low-pass filter, PLL applications, 555 timer IC, Astable
and monostable operations and Applications.

Module:7 A/D and D/A Converters 6 hours SLO: 1,2


Sample-and-hold circuits, DAC characteristics, D/A conversion techniques, A/D characteristics,
A/D conversion techniques-integrating, successive approximation, flash converters.

Module:8 Contemporary Issues 2 hours
