When I held my conversation for this writing prompt, I held it with my three roommates

Ian, Jared, and Jameson. Even though Ian, Jameson, and I were raised to be men of faith, I felt

that it would have been a little awkward holding this conversation just by itself. I ended up just

talking to them about religion in society while we were watching football Sunday afternoon. This

helped us elaborate in our conversation about religions role in society and how it plays a part in

social factors as well as private industries.

Knowledge of conventions is a lot different when the focus is on a topic about religion

for many reasons. Religion is a huge topic that has many influences in not only society, but

personal and political lively hoods as well. All of these influences lead religion back to a

personal belief, because that is the nature of religion. While speaking with my room mates, we

talked about how teams used to openly pray before games on live TV, and now owners of a team

or certain players get crucified for bringing religion up.

This plays in to the knowledge of conventions where there are so many outlets for

religion to come up, and every outlet has some effect on society. From our talk, we believe the

disassociation of religion from society stems from society becoming more sensitive. We

discussed how a lot of people believe that just because everything should be equal, certain things

shouldnt have a presence in society. This also leads back around in knowledge of conventions
because we spoke about how not every other topic that people will be doing their projects on has

as many outlets or ways to affect people as a society and individually.

The conversation was very helpful because I learned how broad the topic is and how

many different ways I can go with it when researching. I remember asking my roommates if they

thought that society as a whole has been stepping away from religion, and the brought up some

memories from when we were all younger. We used to see commercials on TV and newspapers

for different churches and now its been about 6 years since Ive seen anything on a main

communication network about churches. I was surprised that my roommates would think this far

back about the conversation, and it pressed me to look into any laws or regulations preventing

religion from being advertised.
