Subject Life Science

Grade Grade 8
Level

Learning LS.12
Content

Objective The student will investigate and understand that organisms reproduce and
transmit genetic information to new generations. Key concepts include
a) the structure and role of DNA
Online At the beginning of the course, the instructor has provided links to
Activity practice and review each chapter in Blackboard under the Course
Materials tab.
Students can go at their own pace as long as the simulations for each
chapter are completed by the due date.
Under Course Materials the student will click on chapter, DNA
structure and function in Google slides.
After reading and taking notes for the chapter, click on the simulation link
on the last Google slide from the DNA structure and function chapter.
The simulation link will direct the student automatically to the Official
Website of the Nobel Prize. Theres no need for a username or password.
This simulation will test their knowledge on what they have read from the
chapter.
Begin by answering the questions that are provided and click on the next
button until the student gets to the binding of the nucleotides to start
building a DNA double helix.
Start the first organism activity with the copying process.
After the copying process, take a picture of the number of mutations,
chromosomes, pairs of genes, and points you have received.
Answer the following question to find out what DNA matches to the
correct organism. Be careful, if the answer is wrong, student loses points.
Take a picture of whether your result was correct or not.
Time to start on the second organism copying process.
After the second copying process, take a picture of the number of
mutations, chromosomes, pairs of genes, and points you have received.
For the second time around, answer the following question to find out
what DNA matches to the correct organism. Be careful, if the answer is
wrong, student loses points.
Take a picture of whether your result was correct or not.
Time for the third (final) copying process of DNA.
Pedagogy

After the final copying process, take a picture of the number of mutations,
chromosomes, pairs of genes, and points you have received.
For the third time around, answer the following question to find out what
DNA matches to the correct organism. Be careful, if the answer is wrong,
student loses points.
Take a picture of your final score. If student isnt satisfied with the results,
the student can play again.
Upload photos from the beginning to the end of the simulation activity
send via email with the subject DNA to the instructor. Also, in the email,
answer the following questions:
-What does DNA stand for?
- Molecules that are built up by repeatedly linking together smaller
molecules are called?
-Name four nucleotide monomers.
- Adenine nucleotides are bonded with ___________.
- Cytosine nucleotides are bonded with ___________.

The student will receive credit for completing the simulation website
activity and gain an understanding for DNA structure.

Technolo Before starting any simulation activities, online tests and quizzes; make
gy sure that all technology devices are up to date.
