Comm 1010 Informative Speech Outline

Specific Goal: My audience will understand the importance of teaching healthy sexuality to their kids, in order
to prevent abuse.

Application: The audience will have the information they need to keep their kids safe in todays world.

Ethos: Primary Ethos: I work treating women who were abused as children, and teaching techniques to stop
the cycle of abuse.

Secondary Ethos: I will cite five references out loud in my speech.

Pathos: I will demonstrate how common sexual abuse is, by having every 4th person in the audience stand
brining an understanding and frustration for just how prevalent childhood sexual abuse is in America.

Logos: I will cite studies confirming the frequency of abuse, and demonstrate techniques proven to help
protect our children, and prevent abuse in our families.

Audience Assessment: My audience likely knows that sexual abuse happens, but most dont know how
common it is, or that it happens to people that they know.

Adaptation to Audience: I will explain how this topic applies to children at every age, so parents of teenagers
will understand and relate, just as much as parents of toddlers will.

Pattern of Organization: Topical organization throughout the Introduction and Body.

B. Studies have shown that as few as 12% of children will report their abuse.

child knows and trusts (p.4).

we can do about it!

B. Let our children show affection on their own terms, and help them understand the difference
between good touch and bad touch (2016).
C. Monitor the technology your children are using, and teach them to be smart with their devices
(2016).
D. Keep an open dialogue with your children, so they can always feel safe coming to you with
questions and concerns (2016).
Transition: There are many more tools that I can refer you to, but these few that we have
mentioned can be a good place to start in solving the problem.

children to live their best lives, free from abuse.

their own hands.
