The Arkansas River is one of the best
areas to fish in Colorado, and it will

say.
A 102-mile segment of the Arkansas AND SO MUCH MORE!
River qualifies as Gold Medal Trout Wa-
ters, the top designation that Colorado
Parks and Wildlife can bestow.
To receive the listing, a body of water
must consistently support a minimum
trout standing stock of 60 pounds per
acre,and consistently support an aver-
age of at least 12 quality trout (larger
than 14 inches) per acre.
Michael Atwood, aquatic biologist for
Colorado Parks and Wildlife Area 13,
said he doesnt see that changing.
Atwood said a method called elec-
trode fishing is used to determine the
quality of fish in the water.
We have an electrode in one hand
and a net in the other and we shock the
fish and sample that way, Atwood said.

He has been climbing rocks across

Jenkins serves as chairman for west-

other local climbers to form the Arkan-

Salida ArtWalk celebrates 25 years

By Arlene Shovald
THE ARTS
2017 marks the 25th year for Salida
ArtWalk one of the most popular art
events of the year.
This years event is set for June
22-25.
Salidas history as an art commu-
nity began after the Climax Molyb-
denum Mine began closings in the
mid-1980s and artists began to occupy
downtown buildings being abandoned
by businesses.
Gradually Salida took on an identity
as an art town. Author John Villani
included Salida in his book 100 Best FILE PHOTO
Art Towns in America, and in 2012 The Salida ArtWalk celebrates 25 years June 23-25.
Gov. John Hickenlooper designated
