that is equal to (answer: 2/4). Students will be able to visually see how =
2/4. The teacher will point out the number line underneath the top and bottom
fraction models that show how = 2/4. When the teacher clicks and holds on
the mark on the bottom number line the number line changes to reflect 2/4
rather than 1/2. This shows students that is the same as 2/4. The teacher will
then lead discussion to LCD lowest common denominator. If we wanted to
add + 2/4 we would first need to find the lowest common denominator. We
need to make the bottom number the same for both fractions in order to add or
subtract the top numbers together. The teacher will then select the bottom
frame square Compare fractions using LCD. Again students will see = 2/4
and how to find the LCD.

The teacher next will lower the bottom fraction model to reflect . She will ask
students to try and determine the LCD and pause in demonstration for a
moment to give students think time. After a moment she will again demonstrate
how to use the bottom frame to find LCD and the process used to find LCD and
students will check their answers. The teacher will then ask students to find the

time and write down answers independently. The teacher will then select Show
difference and students will check their answers and see that > by 1/4.

Student work:
After viewing the teacher presentation and demonstration students will access a
provided link to Gizmos Modeling Fractions Area Model and manipulate and
play with the fraction simulator to practice making fractions with different
denominators that are equal and finding the LCD and difference.
Student will take the 5 question student assessment. Take a screen shot and
send to the teacher or print results and turn in if you have periodic class
meetings.

Assessment:
Students will complete an attached multiple choice assignment in a word
document form (locked so they only have to select radial option for each
answer) as a graded assessment that involves 10 questions with various fraction
problems. Problems will include:
Finding the LCD of 2 or more fractions.
Sequencing fractions in order from least to greatest that have different
denominators.
Subtracting fractions with different denominators.

The completed assessment will be saved and sent to the teachers email for
grading.

This assessment could also be made available via google docs and sent to the
teacher for grading via google docs.
