What Amrita Patel has contributed to Indian Ethos - (have doubt about the topic

but still)
Amrita Patel's housekeeping ability taught to her by her mother came in very han
dy when she had to organise the Dairy Congress in Delhi single-handedly.She neve
r ordered her staff to do some work but rather relied on the indian characterist
ic of rather persuading and getting work done. While negotiating with a british c
ompany's officer for setting up a vaccine plant in hyderabad, she was told by hi
m,"Well I don't have anything pretty to look at,so then what do you want to do?"
.Hearing this, Ms.Patel straightaway replied,"Mister, the best thing is for you t
o go home."This incident throws light on her strong Indian roots which have incu
lcated this self-respect characteristic in her.Outstanding CEOs do not possess a
ny superhuman qualities or mystical powers. They follow simple common sense pract
ices in the daily grind of business to rise to the top.It is not just working fo
r the people but caring for them. You are given responsibility, position and autho
rity but with that comes accountability.Amissionary doesn't always work for mone
y,although she might earn some. When one recruits, one has to breathe into the ca
ndidates the ethos that goes with our responsibilities and hold fast to our comm
itment to larger goals. There is a corresponding value shift from competition to
co-operation,expansion to cconservation, quantity to quality, and domination to p
artnership. Those were the core ethos around which Amrita Patel's life evolved ar
ound.

Conclusion
With so many colours splashed on her life s palette, its hardly surprising that Dr
Amrita Patel has led such a colourful existence. Pushing 60, though so well-pre
served she d give women half her age a run for their money, the current NDDB Chair
person has lived life on her terms, carving a niche for herself in a field where
even men once feared to tread.
Though her first term as NDDB Chairperson will perhaps be remembered more for he
r sparring bouts with her mentor, the grand old man of the co-operative milk mov
ement Dr Verghese Kurien, it will also be remembered as a time when she finally
came out of the shadows of her father, HM Patel, the former ICS-officer-turned p
olitician who was among the ablest finance ministers of the country. Amrita refu
ses to admit she s had spats with her mentor and former boss. However, her move to p
rofessionalise ailing milk co-operatives through joint ventures with NDDB has be
en roundly criticised by those from the old school who are accusing her of corpor
atising co-operatives. Whether her decisions on milk co-operatives in India are c
orrect or not, what it does reveal about Amrita is her determination to fight fo
r causes.
She acknowledges that much of who she is today is because of Dr Kurien. But her
personality traits such as fairness, justice and public-spiritedness she attribute
s to her late father.
A single woman by choice, Amrita, however, does miss companionship at times. Luc
kily, ecological issues and working for the poor keep her engaged. Still, she co
nfesses: Sometime when I come back after a trip, I wish I had a wife who could lo
ok after my food and the odd jobs around the house. ...
