What makes for useful information to cite from a piece of literature? Objectives: 1. Students will identify quotes from The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and be able to properly cite them with 2 or less errors. 2. Students will compare and contrast the land vs the river in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn with 2 or less errors. 3. Students will be able to draft in MLA format with 1 or less errors after being given instruction. PA CORE Standards: 1. Make sure every student has a laptop and is logged on. 2. In-text citation worksheet a. Give students an example of a quote and the proper MLA format for the in-text citation. b. Students will be given a handout with 3 quotes and page numbers, in which they will have to use proper MLA format to cite. 3. Proper MLA format a. Help students set up their header and page layout for the paper they will be writing. b. Show an example and remind them they can use Purdue OWL. 4. Proper MLA citations for the book a. Break down MLA format for citing a book. b. Show them the proper format for The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. 5. What is symbolism? a. What are some symbols of the United States? b. Berwick? c. What symbols are used in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn? 6. Discuss symbolism a. What does the river represent in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn? i. What are some common reoccurring themes when they are on the river? b. What does the land represent in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn? i.
