English 1010
Course Reflection

During the Fall of 2017, I decided to continue my education and take a few general
classes to get my associates degree. I enrolled into the online English 1010 class as one of the
many I decided to take this semester. This course consisted of four different goals: Students will
exhibit their rhetorical awareness and flexibility as readers and writers, Students will
demonstrate their critical thinking capacity as readers and writers, Students will develop
metacognition, and Students will develop an ability and confidence to navigate writing
processes.

Through the assigned readings and rhetorical analysis assignment, Ive been able to
develop an appreciation for my newfound awareness and flexibility of the mind when it comes to
reading various different works. Ive had the opportunity throughout this class to expand my
perspective. I believe it has completely changed the way Ill approach reading from here on out.

Thanks to the weekly discussions I had the opportunity to express my critical thinking
and the capacity of the mind. I analyzed the various readings, and interpreted them as I
developed my own responses for the many journals I had throughout the week. With this
opportunity I was able to write some pieces of work that put my critical thinking and analytical
ability to the test, and I believe they turned out very well.

This assignment is a reflection piece of everything Ive practiced in this class. Ive had to
research an entirely new issue and review all possible perspectives, then reflect on all that
information to develop a proper conclusion and opinion of said issue. This required navigating
through multiple different sources to get an all around idea of our chosen topics. Through this
practice alone I was successfully able to develop a sense of metacognition and a stronger
confidence of paving my way through various writing processes.

In conclusion, I really loved the flow and flexibility of this online class. I was able to
practice the skills I already had, and discover the skills I had yet to unearth. Though only a
general class required for my degree, Im very happy to have been able to take this course.
