Dear Dr. Leslie Bruce:

Through your instruction on our six learning outcomes I feel as though I improved my writing from great to

excellent. My organization and design skills were updated to take account for our virtual world, I learned to

collaborate online and in person. My weakest attribute, research and parenthetical citations, also improved this

semester as a result of studying Markle.

Below is an analysis of my mastery of the student learning outcomes. I hope you find everything up to par:

The ability to vary ones tone along the spectrum of informal to formal is an important tool for use not just in

speaking, but in writing too. Shaping the document using language that is audience -appropriate and adding fluid

transitions between paragraphs are instances of diverse writing. For example, advanced language was used in my

resumes objective when I stated that I plan to create flawless ifixit entries by carrying out administrative duties

and revising drafts. [Rhetorical Awareness]

Correctly citing using the appropriate customary citation style is a crucial piece of the process of creating a well-

written document. I strived to introduce each source, document their information, and provide correct MLA

formatting throughout the charter agreement; especially when citing sources outside the textbook. For example,

when discussing how to resolve conflicts, I introduced the Manktelow book using a lead in and went on to cite the

name and year of publication at the end. [Ethical Research]

Some documents are meant to persuade someone or argue an idea; this must be done with insightful reasoning

and a careful balance of opinion and analysis. I practiced persuasive techniques in my resume by taking an

evidence based approach for persuading my audience. For example I noted that I would be best suited for editing

manager, then followed up by listing tasks from my leadership role with Premiere Plastic Surgerys research team.

[Support/Evidence] Another student learning outcome highlights the organizational devices that serve to make

sense of the rhetorical situation at hand. I learned to use topic sentences, headings and transitional sentences that

improved the flow of my writing. For example, in the group charter I added bullet points and headings for the

objective, group guidelines, timesheet and team mission statement in order to uphold superior letter formatting.

[Organization]

Learning outcome number 5 was met in my peer review of Group 3s Proposal document. I was sure note that they

should follow design principles like alignment and proximity in order to improve the documents message. They

already seemed to be sensitive to the audience and rhetorical focus. Using persuasive arguments, proper academic

language and organization tools specific to the document are three crucial objectives i n mastering technical

writing. [Language & Design] Another skill that was well developed in this class were my efforts at collaboration. I

believe that my writing was improved through the peer editing of others, as well as through constructive criticism

from my own team. Many emails were sent between us throughout the ifixit project. My collaboration improved in

the editing of Group 3s work I offered specific as well as general critique of their proposal in order to not only

improve their papers, but to catch things that I may sometimes miss in my own work. [Collaboration]

I should work on telling the reader exactly who did the research and why instead of just dropping the quote. I

decided to revise these documents because they are each a vibrant example of conquered learning objectives. The

changes I made were mostly related to improving adherence to the learning objectives and modifying formatting.

My website is organized in a simple but stylish way because I intended to put my individuality and higher l evel

thinking on display. I believe the design improves not only readability, but credibility. I am grateful for the

opportunity to improve my technical writing by embodying the six student learning outcomes.
