Section 1

The importance of Problem set 1 consists of quadrilaterals. We learned that squares,

rectangles, and rhombi are in the same family because they have the same properties. It is

important to teach this to children because it is a simple way of teaching them that a quadrilateral

is any four-sided shape. This concept is probably the most important because it is teaching them

the basics. Even though they are most of the time surrounded by quadrilaterals, they might

encounter this in the future such as sculpture, computer, or any other activities. The problems

from the homework helped me build up the necessary knowledge because of the Venn diagram. I

learn better when I draw pictures, instead of using words. I am a visual learner, so when I saw

the Venn diagram everything made so much sense. I will never forget how it looks and I can re-

write it over and over. The Venn diagram was the key to help me answer most of the other

questions from the homework, because all I would have to do is see it and I would understand

the question better.

The importance of parallel lines is that they are the base of angles. Parallel lines are in the

same plane and never intersect. It is important to teach the students that parallel lines are always

the same distance apart but they never touch. I was able to learn about what relationships exist

between different pairs of angles. Vertical, corresponding, alternate interior, alternate exterior

angles were the key to add up to 180 degrees. The problems from the homework helped me build

up the necessary knowledge because I drew two parallel lines. The problem was the key for me

to understand the different types of angles and how it adds up to 180. I learned everything just by

doing one problem. I was able to draw two parallel lines. I understood the different types of
angles. After I completed the homework I was able to also understand the family tree of

quadrilaterals and the different definitions a trapezoid has.

The importance of learning about triangles is we should be able to classify different types

of triangles that will help us solve problems that consist of classifying sides and angles. This

lesson was very important because we learned about many different types of tringles such as

scalene and equilateral. I was able to find the measurements and missing angles. It is important

to teach children about all the different types of triangles. They need to understand that there is

many and that some have different properties. It is important for the student to know that a

triangle is the basic building block. The homework for this problem set was to draw a triangle

and then draw a line base on top. This problem taught me about triangles, lines, angles. I learned

that alternate interior angles are equal. Because of this problem I learned the measurements

required to add up to 180. Straight angles are 180 degrees. I also learned about substitution. I had

trouble learning about all this, but with this problem I was able to really understand it. I liked the

idea that I got to draw the image since I learn better the way.

The last problem set is important because it taught me about all the different line

segments. I learned that two lines are perpendicular if they intersect at 90 degrees. Also that

skew lines are non parallel and will never intersect. It is important to teach students about

collinear points. They are able to learn about line segments. I feel like students would like this

topic because they get to learn about patterns. I love learning about patterns because I find them

fun, so I think children will enjoy it and they will be learning at the same time. The homework

helped be build up knowledge by drawing the line segment. I will be using this in the future

because it was very simple and the pattern made sense. Also graphing is always interesting but it

helped me organize and understand rotation and translation better
