I thought ACTEM was a great experience because I was able to learn more about how to

use technology in the classroom. I already had an understanding of how to integrate technology
into my lessons, but I wasnt sure how much it would benefit my students. As we are discussing
the effects of multiple intelligence theory, in Dr. Graces class, I am noticing new ways of how
technology can provide assistance during the instruction process. My iBook was based on
Quizlet, which is a great resource for helping students create healthy study habits and
atmospheres. When reflecting on my iBook, I think I succeeded in having a concise iBook to
display the effects of using Quizlet in the classroom, as well as outside of the classroom (at
home, in the car, on a plane, etc.) When discussing my app for the presentation at ACTEM, I
believe the information I provided was accurate and up-to-date. I made sure to answer every
question to the best of my ability, and even learned some additional information from teachers
who were familiar with the app and its functions. If I could prepare more for the presentation, I
would have done more research on Quizlet Live. As a sister program of Quizlet, I would have
benefitted from supplying information on both apps. I would have, also, used my iBook more
when discussing with visitors. I used it during introductions, but then relied heavily on the app
itself during one on one discussion.
When not presenting at the conference, I took advantage of visiting the different on-site
meetings. I attended two morning sessions and they were Digital Storytelling for younger
learners with Nadine Mathes and Design Thinking with Dan Ryder and Julie Willcott. Both
sessions focused on how technology is innovative and key for learner success. In Nadines
session, I learned about different free sites for activities like interactive posters or simple book
creators. Though I believed I was attending a session for Middle/High school educators, I was
surprised with how relevant the presentation was. Mathes discussed the different ways students
can use speech to text to see the errors they are making, and later use this error to make
conscious corrections. This tool would be useful for students with learning disabilities and ESL
or ELL students. The second session was more of a refresher course. Since I am Dans practicum
students, I have been learning about his study of Design thinking for most of the semester (even
when im not in the field). He, also, teaches a class with Melissa Audy by the same title. This
session was a more hands -on approach to understanding the different components of design
thinking (Discover, Empathy, Produce, etc.). Willcott used the example of common phone or
tablet apps to display these components for visual learners.
As a stated in the first paragraph, I have success and regrets from my work as a presenter
during the conference. I worked had on my iBook presentation, and it showed when I had
answers for the attendees of the event. I enjoyed providing support of the Quizlet app, and I feel
attendees agreed my enthusiasm. Though this app was not directly associated with
English/Literature, I tried my best to relate it to my concentration by providing an english
example in my iBook. This app could be utilized within all of our concentrations, and students
would receive so many benefits from using Quizlet in the classroom.
