D) Describe the characteristics of free verse, rhymed, and
patterned poetry.
Activity The student will use classroom computers to access the
internet and utilize the webtool, Storybird.com. Within this
webtool, students will first establish their own profiles. The
students will then choose from a variety of available artwork
that will be used as the theme and inspiration for creating their
own free verse poems. Once a theme/picture is chosen, the
Storybird webtool will provide the students with a group of
randomized words in which the students can organize to
construct their individualized poem. After the poem is done,
the students will be able to publish and share their work.

The instructor will help facilitate the project by providing the


class with a brief tutorial of the Storybird webtool. The
instructor will also encourage students to use their creativity
while utilizing figurative language such as metaphors, similes
and idioms. The instructor will serve as a guide to answer any
questions with regards to the project.
