Prewriting: Annotated Bibliography (Prior Beliefs & Assumptions)*

I believe that parents have the biggest influence on a childs life. They are a primary

source of association and attitudes and reactions shape their children. I think that if the parents

are criminals, the children are probably far more likely to be as well. The same goes for gang

activity. I believe that specifically implemented programs can greatly reduce crime involvement

of at-risk teens. I want to believe that with these programs, a child who lives in a low-income

home does not necessarily have to lead a life of crime. I want to think that the stereotype can be

broken. A common misconception is that if you are raised with criminals, you will become one.

However, with community involvement and successful after-school programs, anyone could be

prosperous and happy. I assume that there are some impoverished and affected areas around me,

so before I begin my research I would want to check those out for reference.
