I chose Karen Katz as my spotlighted author for many reasons. She is both an author and an illustrator
who incorporates many genres in her childrens literature. She also does a really good job in her literature
to showcase the many different races and religions in this world and to celebrate them. For example, The
Colors of Us highlights many different skin tones found in our world and paints them in a way that
showcases the beauty among the differences. Karen Katz also has written a few books highlighting
different holidays that students may celebrate in your classroom. I think this is really great so that students
can understand that other holidays besides the ones they celebrate have value and meaning. Overall,
Karen does a really good job of showing many different types of diversity in her books.
