Preamble

All Buildings and their subdivisions in Qatar shall be classified by their

occupancy use. The fire and life safety provisions shall be provided as
prescribed in the latest edition of the NFPA 101 Life Safety Code.
A safe environment shall be provided that permits the building
occupants and the public to enter without concern for their safety from
fire.

1.0 Portable Fire Extinguishers

Adequate numbers of suitable portable fire extinguishers shall be provided
throughout all buildings.
Portable fire extinguishers shall carry LPC certification, UL listing or VDS
or FM approval.
Selection, quantity and location of portable fire extinguishers shall be in
accordance with the NFPA10

2.0 Hose Reels

All buildings shall be provided with 1 diameter hose reels having 30m long
hoses such that all parts of the building is within reach of the spray from two
hose reels. The maximum spray distance allowed for shall be 6m. Where
further spray distances are relied upon, these shall be substantiated by
hydraulic analysis.
Shall carry LPC certification, UL listing or VDS or FM approval.
Piping distribution shall be designed to discharge 0.4 Lps (6.34 GPM) from
the 2 most remote hose reels each with a minimum throw of 6m.
Water supplies shall be sufficient for 10 minutes operation.

3.0 Fire Pumps

Entire assembly including controllers shall be tested and carry LPC
certification, UL listing or VDS or FM approval.
Selection and installation shall be in accordance with NFPA 20.
A minimum of one duty and one standby pump shall be provided.
Where the duty pump is electrically driven, the standby pumps shall be either
diesel driven or powered from the emergency generator power supply using
fire resistant cables.
Water tanks shall be dedicated and shall not be shared with other services.
Water tanks shall be of non-combustible material

4.0 Water Supplies

Water supplies shall be reliable and dedicated.
Water storage tanks shall be constructed of non combustible materials such
as concrete or steel. Other materials shall require specific approval from the
QCD.
The capacity of water supplies shall be detailed on drawings and submitted to
the QCD for approval.
Automatic infill shall be provided.
Infill supply pipe shall be connected directly to the Kharamaa main supply
pipe immediately downstream of the water meter. The infill supply pipe shall
be the same size as the Kharamaa main pipe without reduction in pipe size.
Direct positive indication of the water level shall be provided.
A low level alarm shall be provided to sound and alarm when the water level
drops to 25% of the effective capacity.

5.0 Sprinkler Valves

Shall be UL Listed, FM approved or LPC certified.
There shall be a minimum of one sprinkler alarm valve per riser
All sprinkler Control Valves shall be located on the ground floor and shall be
directly accessible from external of the building.

6.0 Valves
Shall be UL Listed, VDS or FM approved or LPC certified.

7.0 Sprinklers
Shall be UL Listed, VDS or FM approved or LPC certified.
They shall be selected and installed in accordance with the NFPA13.
Sprinklers shall be installed in concealed spaces in excess of 400mm
deep. Where Concealed spaces can be shown to have no combustible
material and are less than 800mm deep, sprinklers may be omitted.

8.0 Sizing Of Fire Pumps And Pipework

This shall be by hydraulic calculation in accordance with the NFPA13

chapter 22. Information to be submitted fro approval shall be that detailed in

section 22.1, 22.2 and 22.3 (see attached).
The minimum delivery pressure shall be based on the hydraulically most
remote area of operation.
The fire water storage capacity shall be based on the hydraulically most
demanding area of operation.

9.0 Pipes and tubes

Shall have a minimum service pressure of 175psig and at 60C.
Ferrous piping shall be corrosion resistant.
Minimum test pressure shall be 250 psig or 50 psi above the service pressure
at 60C.
Pressure testing and flushing of piping shall be conducted in accordance with
NFPA13 and shall be witnessed by the QP (professional engineer, consultant
etc).

10.0 Fittings
Fittings shall be from material compatible with the pipe chosen.
Jointing methods shall be threaded, grooved, flanged or other suitable
method able to withstand the test pressures.
Grooved joints shall be LPC certified, UL Listed or VDS or FM approved.
Welded joints shall be qualified.

11.0 Fire Alarm Panels

Shall be UL Listed, VDS or FM approved or LPC certified Approved.
A Mimic panel with LEDs to indicate location of fire and status of detectors
and devices shall be provided.

12.0 Mimic Panels with indicating LEDs shall be provided at each floor.

13.0 Fire Alarm Systems shall be connected to 24/7 monitoring station.

14.0 Smoke Control system shall be stand alone systems.

Smoke Control System Fan controls shall be located adjacent to the Main
Fire Alarm Panel.

15.0 Kitchen Hoods

Where required, Kitchen Hoods and associated extraction ducting shall be
fitted with fire suppression systems which are listed for service by either
VDS, UL, FM or other testing authority acceptable to QCD.

16.0 All fire and life safety systems shall be properly maintained under a
documented preventative maintenance inspection and test plan.
The minimum guidelines in NFPA25 shall be applied.
