This step by step document will let you setup your VMware
workstation 8.0 for installation of Check Point R77.
Step1
Open vmware workstation.

Step2.
Go to File-> Open -> New Virtual Machine.In the new window Click Next to continue.

Step3.
Click on Radio button Installer disk image file (iso). Then Click browse and locate the Check Point
ISO image file on your local machine which you have downloaded from www.checkpoint.com or
your instructor have provided to you. For this lab we will locate R77 iso image. The image file should
look something like this Check_Point_Install_and_Upgrade_R77.Gaia.iso. Once you selected the
iso image click Next to continue.

Step4.
Select Guest Operating System as Linux and Version as Red Hat Enterprise Linux 64-bit. Then click
Next.

Step 5.
Give some good name to your virtual machine. For example CCSA-R77-FW. Make sure you select
appropriate local drive to install the virtual machine. If you select the default drive, C drive, then
make sure C drive is having more than 20GB free disk space.

a)Click Browse and then select the Drive in my LAB I have selected E Drive(E:\LAB) .

b) If you always want to keep specific Folder location for all your LAB Vmwares then go to Edit -
>Preferences and configure the directory. Click Next to continue.

Step 6.
Change the maximum disk size value from default 20GB to 40GB. Then Click Next.

Click Customize hardware.

Step 8.
As displayed in the below diagram the default settings are as follows

-Memory-2GB , Network Adapter is NAT

-And we wont be requiring the following devices Floppy ,USB Controller ,Sound Card, Printer So we
will remove them and we will change the Memory value to 512MB , we can manually type in 512 in
Memory for this virtual Machine or you can drag the pointer to 512 MB as currently the pointer is
at 2GB as highlighted in below diagram you need to drag it to 512 MB.

Memory is now changed to 512 MB ,all the devices which were not required is been removed ,and
We will keep default NAT interface as shown below

Click on Add to add new hardware to virtual machine. Then Select Network Adapter from the list
of Hardware. Then click Next.

a)This step will add 2nd NIC card to virtual machine.

b) 1st NIC card will be there by default.

c)Please note that in this lab we are creating a Virtual machine that is having 4 NIC cards.

d)The default NIC card will be named as eth0 and this newly added NIC adaptor will be named
aseth1.

Step 9.
Under Network connection select Bridged: Connected directly to the physical network. Also click
on the checkbox Replicate physical network connection state. Click Finish. This setting will make
sure that 2nd NIC card (eth1)which we have added in last step will work as our external interface.

Step 10.
Now we will add another interface. This will be displayed as eth2 in Check Point GAIA operating
system. Click on Add, Select Network Adaptor and Click Next.

Step 11.
We will configure eth2NIC interface, which we have created in last step, as Internal LAN. Click on
radio button Custom: Specific virtual network. From the drop down list select a simple VMNET. A
simple VMNET is the one where NAT, Host-Only and Bridged options are not mentioned in bracket.
In below screen shot VMnet1 and VMnet8 are not simple VMNET so do not select VMnet1 or
VMnet8. For this lab we have selected VMnet3. Then Click Finish.

Step 12.
Add another NIC card to Virtual machine. We will use this NIC card to connect Check Point to Host
Machine. This NIC card will appear as eth3 on Check Point machine. Click Add then select Network
Adaptor and then click Next.

Step 13.
Since we are going to use this NIC card to connect Check Point Virtual machine to Host machine we
need to choose a VMnet that is configured as Host-Only. In real world this NIC card will be
something like Management Interface. Most VMware setup will have VMnet1 defined as Host-Only.
Click on radio button Custom: Specific virtual network. From the drop down list select a
VMnet1(Host-Only). For this lab we have selected VMnet1 as this VMnet is configured as Host-Only.
Then click Finish.

Step 14.
.At this stage you have created a virtual machine that has 4 NIC cards. 40GB Hard Disk. 512GB Ram.
CD Drive loaded with Check Point ISO image.Click Finish .

Step 15.
Congratulations. You can create a virtual machine where we will now install Check Point. Please go
through the Training-Setting-UP-VMWARE-STEP2.pdf document to proceed further.
