Lesson Title/Focus Class #: Grade 1-5 Course Physical Education

PROGRAM OF STUDY OUTCOMES

A1 - 5 demonstrate ways to receive, retain and send an object, using a


variety of body parts and implements, individually and with others
A4 - 5 select, perform and refine ways to receive, retain and send an
object with control

combination of skills, by using elements of body and space awareness,

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

At the end of the lesson students will be able to:


1. Execute a variety of ways to receive, retain and send an object throughout
the activity being performed in the class.
2. Structure their group in a way that is fair to all students participating in the
activity being performed in class.
3. Execute a variety of different locomotor skills throughout the activity being
performed in the class.

MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT

Cones
2 small balls used for dodgeballs

PREPARATION AND LOGISTICAL CONSIDERATIONS

Have students sit quietly at their desks and ask students What are we
going to do when we go downstairs? and What is going to happen if we
are not behaving ourselves down stairs?.
Dismiss students to quietly walk downstairs to the gym.
PROCEDURE

Introduction Time

All students are sitting on the floor in the gym and thank them for 3 mins
walking downstairs quietly and sitting down quietly and patiently
Explain to the students that I want them to run seven laps in the
gym before we begin playing out game. Explain that they must
run on the outside of the poles that are in the gym.

Body Time

Dodge ball 1. Have one of the students grab one of the pink 15
for the dodge balls for them to use during their game. mins
Grades 4- 2. Explain to the students that they will be playing
5s dodge ball. They have a different way of playing
dodge ball that involves playing with just five
students.
3. Before the students start playing explain that the
ball must only hit the student from the waist down, if
the ball hits them above the waist it does not count.
4. Two students are on one side of the large square in
the middle of the gym and two students are on the
opposite side of the large square in the middle of
the gym. The last student is standing inside the
large square in the middle of the gym.
5. One of the students on the sides has the ball. The
goal is for them to throw the ball and hit the student
that is standing in the middle.
6. If they miss the person in the middle another
student will go and grab the ball to have the next
throw. If they hit the person in the middle, the
person who threw the ball will switch places with
the student in the middle.

Dodge ball 1. Have one of the grade 3 boys go and grab the 15 mins
for the cones for the game and another grade 3 boy grab
Grade 1- the other pink dodge ball for them to use during the
3s game.
2. Explain to the students that they will be playing
dodge ball. They have a different way of playing
dodge ball that is easier for the younger students.
3. Before the students start playing explain that the
ball must only hit the student from the waist down, if
the ball hits them above the waist it does not count.
4. Set up the cones in one of the corners of the gym
and have one student stand inside the cones. The
rest of the students must stand outside of the
cones.
5. One student has the ball in their hand and throws it
at the student inside the cones. If they miss the
student another student will go and get the ball and
bring it outside of cones to throw it at the student
again. If the ball hits the student inside the cones
that student who threw the ball is now inside the
cones.

Conclusion Time

Have students clean up the cones and put the balls away in the 2 mins
storage room.
Have the rest of the students line up at the bottom of the stairs
and wait quietly and patiently for the rest of the students to get
into the line and then dismiss them to quietly walk upstairs to the
classroom.

Assessment

Observe students performing locomotor skills throughout the activity being


performed in class. Linked to POS A1-1 and A4-2.
Observe students receiving, retaining and sending an object with control
throughout the activity being performed in class. Linked to POS A1-5 and
A4-5.
Observe students demonstrating etiquette and fair play throughout the
activity being performed in class. Linked to POS C1-3 and C4-3.
