The materials used in this experiment were the resonance tube apparatus, 2 tuning forks of different

frequencies, meter stick, rubber mallet, thermometer and Kundts tube with accessories.

In activity 1, the water was started near the top of the resonance tube apparatus. Next, a tuning fork was
strikes using a rubber mallet and the vibrating tuning fork was positioned over the glass tube. Then, the
water vessel was slowly lowered until the loudest sound was heard and the point was marked. The
distance between the point and the top of the glass tube was measured. Next, the diameter of the
resonance tube was also measured. The wavelength of sound was calculated. The velocity of sound in air
inside the glass tube was computed.

In activity 2, the vernier microphone was connected to the computer. The microphone was placed near the
open end of a closed glass tube. The fingers were snapped near the tube. The graph of the sound was
collected and the time interval was determined by using the file 24 Speed of Sound. The speed of sound
was calculated by dividing the length of the tube by 1/2 of the time interval and the percent error was
determined.

In activity 3, a thin layer of cork dust was placed inside the Kundts tube. The rod was then clamped in
the center. The rod was rubbed with a piece of cloth with coarse powder which set the rod into vibration
that produced a sound of high frequency. The distance between the two consecutive displacement nodes
was measured and the average distance was computed. Next, the frequency of sound, speed of sound in

the rod and the theoretical speed of sound in the rod was calculated. Lastly, the percent error was
determined.
