Technology is everywhere in education, Public schools in the United States now provide at least

one computer for every five students (Herold, 2017). The Clark County School district recently

got approved 17 million dollars to upgrade technology. Integrating technology into the

curriculum is a priority in most schools today especially elementary schools. Technology should

be integrated, not as a separate subject or as a once-in-a-while project, but as a tool to promote

and extend student learning daily. The only challenge that comes with Technology is how and

when to use it, and how much of it to use so you dont take away time from the other curriculum.

For many teachers, a lack of personal experience with technology presents an additional

challenge. To have technology-based activities and projects into their curriculum, those teachers

first must find the time to learn to use the tools and understand the terminology necessary for

participation in those projects or activities. Technology can be a tool for teachers as well as for

students. To help teachers new to technology gain experience in using it, and to help tech savvy

teachers incorporate technology more fully into their daily routines. Some of the things that

Technology in education can be used for things such as challenging students with online math

problems, help the students with research on their book reports. Another way technology can be

used in the classroom is help students with their creativity, for example having them do an art

project on an software instead of doing it on normal paper. Also have the students create a model

of an Russ Bridge or draw out their dream room. Teachers can easily use technology to help

them in the classroom, by finding online worksheets based on what subject they are teaching the

students. Sometimes teachers are worn out from trying to come up with new and creative

seatwork assignments day after day after day. Technology can be used to improve teaching and
learning and help our students be successful. Instead of the teacher being the only source

of help in a classroom, students can access web sites, online tutorials, and more to assist them.

After doing my through research of the technology standards at the local school District, State of

Nevada, and National level. I expanded my understanding of the CCSD Technology Education

Standards, Nevada Performance Indicators, National Educational Technology Standards, and

Common Core Standards. At first, I saw a lot of comparisons between the standards of

technology of CCSD. One of the comparisons was each document described the components of

the standards section. They talked about how the student were expected or what was the goal of

them using the using technology in the classroom for education reasons. Each standard also gave

a rubric on how the student was expected to reach the standards on what is involved in each part

of the standard.

Even though, there was compariosns to the documents about the standards. There are also

ways to contrast them as well. For, the Computer and Technology Education standards was quite

different. The reason why it was different was because it talked about how the student were

expected or what was the goal of them using the using technology but also breaking it down by

grade level, and talked about exceeding, meeting, approaching and being below the standard.

The second document which was Nevada Computer and Technology standards and it was

different from the others by giving different how the student would be leveled or graded on

creativity, communication, research, critical thinking, digital citizenship, and technology

operations. For the last document, which was the seven ISTE standards for students which tells

the student is an empowered learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative

Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator, and Global Collaborator.

Operation: PEMDAS in the Math Class

Grade: 5th grade

Subject? Math

Whole groups/ individual groups

Technology Standard : ISTE standards for students

Standard: (5)1.23 [NS 1.5.3

Objective? use order of operations to solve problems

Explain PEMDAS (Parenthesis, Exponents, Multiplication, Addition, Subtraction)

Students will Create about 30 pieces of construction paper with each having a different symbol,

number, number w/exponent, root, parenthesis, etc.

Students will be able to use technology to practice and solve problems

Students will each take out their chrome books, and go online to

Funbrain.com, and use 30 mins to an hour and use the games to solve problems that

involve order of operations (Parenthesis, Exponents, Multiplication, Addition,

Subtraction)
Procedures:

1. Explain PEMDAS (Parenthesis, Exponents, Multiplication, Addition, Subtraction)

2. This help students with order of operations

3. Students will write down definitions of Parenthesis, Exponents, Multiplication, Addition,

Subtraction

Parenthesis - Parentheses or "round brackets" are the familiar ( ) symbols used in

pairs to group things together.

Exponents - he exponent of a number says how many times to use that number in

a multiplication. Written as a small number to the right and above the base

number. Example 82 = 8 8 = 64

Multiplication - repeated addition. For example: 5 3 = 5 + 5 + 5 = 15

Division - split into equal parts or groups. It is "fair sharing". Example: there are

12 chocolates, and 3 friends want to share them, how do they divide the

chocolates?

Answer: They should get 4 each.

Addition - finding the total, or sum, by combining two or more

numbers. Example: 5 + 11 + 3 = 19 is an addition

Subtraction - Taking one number away from another number. Example 6-2=4

4. Display an example on smart board and have students solve the problem

(Use PEDMAS)

Students will each take out their chrome books, and go online to
Funbrain.com, and use 30 mins to an hour and use the games to solve problems

that involve order of operations (Parenthesis, Exponents, Multiplication, Addition,

Subtraction)

5. Students will each take out their chrome books, and go online to

Funbrain.com, and use 30 mins to an hour and use the games to solve problems that

involve order of operations (Parenthesis, Exponents, Multiplication, Addition,

Subtraction)

6. Give out worksheet that has 10- 20 problems that involve order of operations. Every

problem is worth 2 points each. I will grade on completion(did the student attempt to

answer the problem correctly, does the student use PEMDAS, if the student was on the

right track to answer the problem.
