Method of Selecting Teams

To make a fair and balanced season the following things will be taken into
consideration when making the team's: skill level, fitness level, leadership, personality,
and friendships.
During the pre-season, students will be placed in a badminton skills combine. This
combine will consists of the following things: communication drill, footwork drill, serving to a
target drill, passing, and a badminton rules written pre-quiz. During this combine, the teacher
will observe the students and grade them on a 1-10 scale (1 being least skilled, 10 be most
skilled. All ranking will never be shared with the students ). After each student is ranked, teacher
will make teams by making each team first based strictly off skill level. Each team will be made
by summing players ranking on each team. For example, team one could receive a rank 10
player, two rank 7 players, a rank 5 player, a rank 4 player, and a rank 1 player. Team one would
have a total ranking of 10+7+7+5+4+1= 24. Teacher's goal is to have each team have a summed
rank +/- one point from each other. After each team is made, the teacher will make sure there is
at least one leader on each team. If there is a team without a leader, a change will be made. Next,
teacher will make sure fitness levels are balanced on each team. Next, teacher will make sure
each team consists of a wide range of personalities. This allows teams to experience many
different emotions and play styles throughout the season. Lastly, teacher will try to split up
friends so every team is filled with new faces. This will create new friendships and allow
everyone a chance to meet someone new. After the teams are selected, they are not finalized until
after one day of preseason games. The teacher reserves the right to switch players from any team
all the way until the end of the pre-season. After the pre-season is over, teams will be final.

For this challenge, each team will have a total of 30 serves (3 per team member) to get as many points as
possible. They way a team scores points is by serving the shuttlecock and having it hit inside or stay inside the
targets. The teacher will position five targets ranging in difficulty. Each target will be worth a different amount of

points). If the birdie hit and stays inside the target, an extra point will be added to the targets worth.

26
Quicksand Team Rally

For this challenge, teams will see how many hits back in forth over a net they can get. However,
each team has four players who are stuck in quicksand. This means they can position themselves on the
court prior to the rally starting, but once it begins they can not move. This leaves one player on each team
that is allowed to run anywhere on both halves of the court. The object of the challenge is to have your
team have the most consecutive hits over the net without the shuttlecock hitting the ground.

and
Fair Play
Goals
Respect
- Respect is expected and demanded. Every single student is held to
a very high standard throughout the whole school here at
Weinberger High School. We expect every student to respect
themselves, their peers, their teachers, the equipment, and the
school.
Honesty
- The only way that a sport education model like this one can be
successful is for each member of the league to swear to 100%
honestly during all games, activities, and while completing their
role. The league is as strong as its weakest link.
Hard Work
- Each member of the badminton league is expected to enter each
day in the gymnasium ready to put forth 100% effort. Working
hard during each and every game and activity will lead to a
successful and competitive league.
Sportsmanship
- At the end of the day, each member of this league are friends and
peers. Because of this, good sportsmanship is required. A positive
and competitive environment starts and ends withs
