Benefits of Electronic Cigarettes Over Traditional Cigarettes

Back in June of this year, a man in India decided that he wanted to have a cigarette while

collecting leaked fuel from an oil tanker. Every time an oil tanker comes thru town, everyone

tries to collect some oil that spills out to take back to their families. While collecting the oil a

man sparks up a cigarette, and some of his ash falls on the ground causing the oil tanker to catch

on fire and explode. The blast killed 150 people and it was all because a man needed his fix

(TheGlobePost 1).

Cigarettes are one of the most physically destructive items of consumption known to

date. Not only are they destructive, but they are also highly addictive. There are well over 4,000

carcinogens known to be in cigarettes that pose serious health risks to the human body. Recently,

within the past decade, a new form of nicotine consumption has been on the rise. Electronic

cigarettes have taken the market by storm, and are a much safer way of consumption. Not only

are they a safer alternative, but they also help with kicking a nicotine addiction. The benefits

from electronic cigarettes show in forms of personal health, finance, and social life.

When it comes to health, cigarettes are known to be the leading cause of lung, mouth, and

throat cancer. Not only does electronic cigarettes prevent black lung, which is the contamination

and deconstruction of the lung from cigarette smoke, but it also considerable eliminates the risks

of getting cancer. When it comes to a smoker's cough, the cause is from the toxins within a

cigarette resting on the back of your throat, causing mucus build up. With electronic cigarettes,

there are no toxins involved with the inhalation, eliminating smokers cough (ecigarette reviewed

1). Smoking also depletes one's sense of taste. Cigarettes are known to leave a film of disgusting

residue on the smoker tongue causing a loss of taste over time. When you stop smoking and start

vaping, the body circulation rate goes back to normal allowing the body to repair itself, resulting

in a much better sense of taste (vaporHQ 1). When it comes to your airways, toxins in cigarette

smoke are known to restrict your breathing. A chemical known as hydrogen cyanide is

responsible for releasing a toxin that restricts your airways from clearing properly, causing

permanent damage over time (Martin 1). Since vaping contains no toxins, this threat is

extinguished. Cigarette smoke is also very effective when it comes to second hand. Even though

someone may not smoke, just being around the smoke itself can cause serious health problems.

Second hand smoke can ruin others lives. Nathan was a Native American and member

of the Oglala Sioux tribe. He never smoked cigarettes, but he was surrounded by secondhand

smoke every day at work for 11 years. "The casino was filled with smoke from so many people

smoking," he said. Exposure to secondhand smoke caused him to develop allergies and serious

infections that triggered asthma attacks. These eventually caused lung damage that never went

away, called bronchiectasis. Nathan used to be active and athletic. He served in the Marines. He

took part in tribal dances. After getting sick, dancing just a few steps wore him out. He hoped

that sharing his story would help others understand how dangerous exposure to secondhand

smoke really is. Nathan's lung damage led to his untimely death in October 2013 at age 54

(CDC 1).

The use of an electronic cigarette instead of traditional cigarettes also has financial

benefits. Cigarettes have an average cost of $5.51 per pack in the United States, compared at

$4.50 for a ecigarette cartridge (fair reporters 1). Lets say that you are smoking a pack of
Howie 3

cigarettes every two days for a whole year, which would cost roughly $1,005.58. Versus, vaping

on a cartridge every two days for a year, which would cost roughly $821.25. Not only would you

be saving a few hundred dollars, but you are treating your body better based off of the health

benefits I spoke about earlier. There is also a problem with smoking and having health insurance,

that you can avoid by simply vaping. Since smoking is the leading cause of preventable death,

insurance companies are likely to charge a smoker up to 50% more for health insurance than a

nonsmoker. In order to avoid having possible health problems and having to pay 50% more for

health insurance, with vaping you can avoid all of these issues. Its a safer, cheaper way of

nicotine delivery.

Last but not least we have the social benefits of using an electronic cigarette over a

traditional cigarette. If you use an ecigarette, there is no scent left over, and the temporary scent

put off from an ecigarette smells good. A traditional cigarette put off a horrid smell that make

people want to get away from you, the scent remains in the air for a long time, and it soaks into

your clothes. With an electronic cigarette, there is no ash. This means no disgusting ash trays

laying around poisoning the air. If you dont want you house to smell you would generally try

and smoke outside, but with an electronic cigarette there is no need to go outside because the

vapor dissipates quickly and leave no scent behind.

The use of an electronic cigarette over a traditional cigarette, as you can see, has benefits

that outweigh the costs of using standard cigarettes. When it comes to physical health, financial,

and social benefits, the electronic cigarette takes the cake every time.
