TALLER 4: VIBRACIONES FORZADAS AMORTIGUADAS

1. A damped single degree of freedom mass-spring system has a mass m = 3 kg, a

spring stiffness k = 2700 N/m, and a damping coefficient c = 18 N s/m. The
mass is subjected to a harmonic force which has an amplitude Fo = 20 N and
a frequency Wf = 15 rad/s. The initial conditions are xo = 4 cm, and o = 0.
Determine the displacement, velocity, and acceleration of the mass after
time t = 0.5 s

2. Repeat Problem 1 for zero initial conditions, that is, xo = 0 and o = 0

I also repeat for the following two cases of the damping coefficient c:
(a) c = 180N.s/m; (b) c = 360 N . s/m; ( c) if the frequency of the harmonic force
Wf is equal to the system natural frequency.

3. Assuming small oscillations, derive the differential equation of motion of the
system shown in Fig. P5. Determine also the steady state response of this system.

4. Determine the differential equation of motion and the steady state response of
the system shown in Fig. P4, where Fl and F2 are harmonic forcing functions
given, respectively, by Fl = Fl0 sin Wl t and F2 = F20 sin w2t.

5. Derive the differential equation of motion of the system shown in Fig.
P6. Obtain the steady state solution of the absolute motion of the mass.
Also obtain the displacement of the mass with respect to the moving
base.

6. For the system shown in Fig. P6, let m = 3 kg, kl = k2 = 1350 N/m, c = 40
N slm, and y = 0.04 sin 15t. The initial conditions are such that xo = 5 mm and
o =0. Determine the displacement, velocity, and acceleration of the mass after
time t = 1 s. Repeat Problem 5 for the following two cases:
(a) y = 0.04 sin 30t; (b) y = 0.04 sin 60t.

7. Derive the differential equation of motion of the damped single degree

of freedom mass-spring system shown in Fig. P7. Obtain the steady state
solution and the amplitude of the force transmitted to the base.

8. For the system shown in Fig. P7, let m = 3 kg, kl = k2 = 1350 N/m, c = 40
N slm, and y = 0.04 sin 15t. The initial conditions are xo = 5 mm and o = o.
Determine the displacement, velocity, and acceleration of the mass after time
t = 1 s.

9. Derive the differential equation of motion of the system shown in Fig.

P8, assuming small angular oscillations. Determine also the steady state
response of this system.

10. Assuming small angular oscillations derive the differential equation of
motion of the uniform slender beam shown in Fig. P9. Obtain an
expression for the steady state solution as a function of time.
