Objective
to asses the Delft3d model morphodynamics by
comparing model results with Duck'94 field data

to deliver a contribution to the vision of durable

coastal extension plans considering the present
situation and long-term prospect of economy and
safety

Application of delft3d in the nearshore zone

Predict the morphodynamics of the mouth of estuary

due to natural provesses and large-scale morphological
interventions such as relocation of navigation channels.

summarizes the set-up and calibration of a numerical

model to simulate the tides, currents, waves, sediment
transport and resultant seabed changes (shoaling and
erosion) at Cape Fear River Entrance, North Carolina,
inclutind the federal navigation channel and the
adjacent shoals and shorelines of oaks island and bald
head islang

3d hydrodynamic model and a coupled SPM transport

model indicate major effects of changes of the coast
line on siltation rates in the most western part of the
Rhine Estuary and the adjacent harbour area. In the
case of south-west land reclamation the computed
sedimentation under quiet weather conditions is
reduced to 20% of the present one.
The CE-QUAL-W2 model, developed by portland state
university, simulates water quality and flow.
Recommendations to expand on this model have it
include sediment transport. Existing 1,2, 3 dimensional
models are reviewed and assessed for their sediment
transport methode. A laterally (width) average
sediment concentration model is developed as an
upwind center space scheme using CE-QUAL-W2 data.
The scheme includes a method to calculate scour for
sediment concentration and results of the model
shown for a simulated branch of the Spokane River

Explored to protect land reclamations by natural sand

dunes and beaches. As the land reclamations are
protruding into the sea, they will suffer from erosion
due to longshore and cross-shore transport gradients.
Regular sand maintenance nourishments will be
required to compensate the erosion of sand along the
dynamic coastline of the land reclamation. Various
model (Delft3D area model, UNIBEST-CL and
LoNGMOR coastline model and CROSMOR profile-
model) have been used to estimate the erosion of sand
along the land reclamation.

implementtation of fully three-dimensional sediment

transport and morphological updating formulations
within the proven Delft 3D 3 dimensional flow solver.
Discusses the operation of the Delft 3D-flow module,
presents the formulations used to model both
suspended and bed load transport of non-cohesive
sediment.

Study the effect of various nourishment designs have

on the nearshore morphology and to demonstrate the
capabilities of the improved Delf3D-Online model in its
present state. As the update Delft3D-model has not yet
been validated, the model outcomes are analysed by
making comparisons relative to the reference situation

one of the large uncertainties is the morphological

response of sand mining pits in different water depths.
Although sand mining is on allowed beyond the 20 m
depth contour, an onshore migration could results in
an increasing morphological response. As a
consquence cod adversely affect the stability of the
upper parts of the coastal zone. The stability of sand
mining pits at deeper water depths is the main focus in
this study.
Hydraulic specialist are equally as important as others
in the Masterplanning teams for large scale
reclamation schemes such as traffic specialist and
landscape architects but in fact is only recently become
recognised. In this paper the advantages of hydraulic
studies from the earlies stages of the inception of
coastal plans and masterplans are highlighted by way
of a number of case studies
