Policy Talking Points
Policy Area:
My policy area is Immigration Policies and I want to focus on Deferred Action for
Childhood Arrivals ,or DACA.
Specific Policy Problem:
As you may know DACA has been a controversial topic on Capitol Hill. Our current
president Donald Trump is demanding all deportation of eligible DACA and illegal Immigrants
to go back to their hometown. Many of my friends, who are here legally because of DACA, will
be affected by this.
Preliminary Policy Solution:
The Government should help me with my policy issue by not taking away their right to
be here legally. Many come here to have a better life and to pursuit their right of an education.
The United States is well know for Life, Liberty and pursuit of happiness.
Ending DACA would cost billions of dollars to end this program.
The federal government would spend an average of $7 billion to $21 billion by them
doing, this would remove 800,000 undocumented immigrants who are currently enrolled
in DACA.
Many agree to send back immigrants or DACA enrollees but they don't know the effects
its going to cost us.
By sending DACA enrollees many people will lose their jobs and the economy will
decrease
In the article The budgetary and economic costs of ending DACA by Ben Gitis, states
that 91 percent of DACA enrollees are employed and removing these workers would
impose a substantial drag on economic growth. Not only is it going to affect DACA
enrollees, it going to affect all of us.
People might say that by sending DACA enrollees back to their hometown, the economic
and jobs opportunity will rise but in reality it will get worse.
Interest Groups:
Action this group taken on this policy:
As Trump announced the ending of DACA on September 5, 2017. There we plenty of
rallies that took place in Downtown Los Angeles and in Washington D.C. About
Thousands showed up in Placita Olvera in Downtown Los Angeles to defend DACA
students by cheering chants and holding up posters. It when from 5- 7pm, the crowd
ended up in City Hall with their fist raised up, chanting El pueblo unido jams ser
vencido" (The people united will never be defeated). 700 protesters showed up in front of
the white house with posters and shouting chants.
Many people who weren't in involved in the protest but still wanted to make a difference
repost pictures that included words like defend DACA or text Resist to 50409. I myself
called my congress to 832-742-1798 and I explained I am calling the Congressperson to
co-sponsor a clean Dream Act one that ensures immigrant youth can continue to go to
school, work, pay taxes without fear of deportation and does not build border walls,
detain and deport other immigrants..
DACA is a federal program, which can requires civil society intermediaries and state and
local governments for exertion. Ryan dania
Lobbying effort:
On their website Weareheretostay.org, They have things where you could take action on
ways to fight back. In their website they have things like attend an event, call your
congress, tweet at congress and get local.
Opposing side
Republicans successfully want to sued Obama for expanding DACA. And those who help
DACA enrollees renew their DACA permits.
In Change.org their a petition to end DACA. They believe that illegals immigrants
shouldnt have the right to have special opportunity if they aren't from here.

Government Officials And Agencies:

Jerry Brown is one elected officials who is here to defend DACA. Jerry Brown is the
Government of California. He explained how sending thousands of DACA enrollees is
cruel and senseless. I would contact this elected official about my policy area because he
has experiences and has credentials working with the law.
