Controlling power in Brave New World

Have you ever predicted something, and it actually happened, how do you feel? Same as

Aldous Huxley, an author who writes Brave new world, who uses this story as a tool to pick up and

predict some of the social problems in the world. Everyone in Brave new world is made in the factory

in a mass production. After people come out from the production line, they will be categorized into

different classes because they are all treated differently. The higher class people in this world will gain

a power to rule the world. Also people in this world, when they get angry or sad or any bad feelings,

they will use drug to overcome that feeling and to create happiness. Aldous Huxley has predicted that

our world in the future will be ruled by a group of people. Everyone will be split into different classes.

Moreover, people will be addicted to drugs. There are three countries in today's world that appear to

imitate the same principle as Brave new world's prediction. Brave New World predicts many of the

techniques that modern powers use to control their populations.

Brave New World predicts that only a group of people has power to control the country. But

queer that Alphas and Betas wont make any more plants grow than those nasty little Gammas and

Deltas and Epsilons down there. From the quote, Alpha and Betas have all the power. The other

lower classes are under Alpha and Betas power. This is similar to North Korea in a way that only a

group of people has all the power. The rest just has to be under their power. From human right watch

and liberty in North Korea websites, they state that people in North Korea nowadays have no freedom,

and are violated their rights. North Korea is one of the oligarchy countries. North Korean citizen do

not have rights to do anything. All the properties of North Korean people are given by the

government. In addition, people dont have connection to outside world because the government does

not allow them to connect with anyone. The North Korea border is now also tighten by the

government in order to prevent people escaping from the country. If their citizens do anything against

the law, they will get a punishment from the government. Similarly, in Brave New World, if some

people make things go wrong, they will get a punishment. Brave New World has Alpha rule the

country, and North Korea has government rule the country. The lower classes can not speak against

the alpha. Both of these are similar in such a way that a group of people has power controlling the

state.

Another characteristic that Brave New World envisions is people will be separated into

different classes. ...where the Alphas and Betas remained until definitely bottled; while the Gammas,

Deltas and Epsilons were brought out again, after only thirty-six hours, to undergo Bokanovskys

Process. In the novel, people are separated into different classes since they are in the factory. The

workers separate infants to different class, so they will be treated differently. Alpha and Beta are the

classes that are able to receive education, Alpha will learn to do research, while beta will study only to

work in the factory. The rest of the classes wont get to learn anything and will be used as a labor.

This characteristic can be compared to China in today's world, They also have different social classes

to serve different purposes. Based on the website of Chinafile, Chinas current social structure divides

into nine different classes. The higher class is The Head Honchos, The Bigwigs, and The

Powerbrokers. These three classes work in the government. They are the one who regulate laws,

create and set agenda, as well as make decisions regarding national and international policies. The

middle class are The Privileged, The Very Comfortable, and The Squeezed. The middle classes are

the ordinary civil servants, which are skilled workers. These people work as a doctors, lawyers, and

engineers. The lower classes are The Marginalized, The Underclass, and The Destitute. People that

are in these classes work as the factory workers, and long-term unemployed urban residents. Right

now, these social classes are the majority of the China population. Alpha and Beta in Brave New

World are the classes who work in the government or some important jobs. These are the same as The

Head Honchos, The Bigwigs, and The Powerbrokers. They are the classes that can setup the laws, and

control the society. People are selected to be in these classes same as the Bokanovskys Process in

Brave New World.

Brave New World envision that drug use will be common in the future. ...there is always

soma, delicious soma, half a gramme for a half-holiday, a gramme for a week-end, two grammes for a

trip to the gorgeous East.... In Brave New World, when people get stressed or angry the will use

soma. From the quote they try to encourage people to use more soma. They say that soma is delicious,

soma for weekend, and use soma on your holiday. Soma is the drug that make people feel happy

discarding the situation. Citizen in Brave New World is taught to use soma since they were young.

Linda, for example, is also given a soma when she admits in a hospital. According to American

Addiction Center website,over 7 million Americans in 2014 battled a drug use disorder. In american 1

in every 12 of adolescent are suffered from a substance use disorder. Substance use disorder, or

known as drug use disorder, it can be separated into 5 types. These 5 types are Tobacco Use Disorder,

Cannabis Use Disorder, Stimulant Use Disorder, Hallucinogen Use Disorder, and Opioid Use

Disorder(Statistics on Drug Addiction, N.D.). Those are different type of disorder that people in

America are currently facing. As the drug are more reachable to younger audience, it will cause a big

problem in the near future. One day, if the drug consuming rate keep rising drug will be used

commonly. Similarly, Brave New World people start using soma since they were young. Soma in

Brave New World is used commonly to make people happy. Unlike drug today in Brave New World

they have only soma. Soma is like all the drug in todays world. When people consume soma they will

addict to it, and whenever they want to be happy they just take soma. Also, the modern drug also

make people addicted and make people lose their mind.

Many of the techniques that the modern powers use to control their citizen is the techniques

that brave new world alardy predict. Brave New World predicts that a group of people will have the

power to rule the country. In North Korea today this is already happen. Only a selection of people that

work with the president and controlling the country. Also, the world will be separated into different

classes. Similar to China that now they have many different classes for different jobs. Lastly, the drug

will be commonly use in the world. America drug useage is one of the highest drug usage in the

world, and it seems like it will keep go higher. If the world keep going this way in the near future, we

will experience Brave New Worlds world, do you want that?
