The opioid crisis is tearing our communities apart, tearing families apart, and

posing an enormous challenge to health providers and law enforcement

officials. Said the committees Chairman, Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn.

Many people become addicted become addicted because they are given it due to

pain for a medical condition. Millions of dollars were given out to help the

highest at risk. This money was given to 22 states to aid first responders. This

is helpful to because its stating that theyre (the government) trying to help as

best as possible.

Opioids are given as pain killers yet some people go overboard. Over the years

the deaths that involved opioids increased. It seems that no one is taking the

time to stop this crisis. Opioids cause a long term risk due to use. This is

helpful because it provides data on the crisis and states facts.

Lopez, G. (2017, October 30). We looked for a state thats taken the opioid

epidemic seriously. We found Vermont. Retrieved October 31, 2017, from

politics/2017/10/30/16339672/opioid/epidemic-vermont-hub-spoke

Th state of Vermont realized there was a problem and decided they had to do

something about it. A group of addiction care providers gathered and discussed

this problem that theyre having. Nurse-counselors went out and talked to

different groups of people about addiction consultation and there was a rise in

patients that were getting treated and a decline in people waiting to be treated.

This is helpful information to me because it shows how one state took the

matters in to their own hands and shows data on how that was working for

them.

Tells the story of a young boy named Matt, who had to deal with his mother

using drugs. With the opioid epidemic sweeping the country numerous children

are finding themselves living in a foster home or with relatives due to their

parents using or overdosing on drugs. This is useful information because it

gives me insight to the effects of using drugs in a family perspective.

President Trump finally declared the epidemic due to opioids a health

emergency on October 26, 2017. Even actor Wendell Pierce goes to twitter to

tweet about the difference between presidents as President Obama called a war

on drugs and President Trump announces a National Health Crisis. The reason

for Native Americans being affected is because long ago the government tried to

Americanize the Native American children by sending them away from their

parents but once an act was passed that parents has a say so on where their

children attend school things were fixed but some people were shook by the

past which lead to them using opioids. This is useful information because it

gives me insight to the idea that not only Whites, Blacks, and Hispanics are

overdosing from this drug. Native Americans are suffering as well.

Attorney Generals and advocates are starting to wonder if its pharmaceutical

companies fault because they said its not and addictive drug. Evidence does

show that pharmaceutical companies may have played a role in the opioid

crisis. Lawsuits have taken place in Illinois, Mississippi, four counties in New

York, Santa Clara, and Orange Counties in California. This is useful

information for me because its giving information on lawsuits and weather

pharmaceutical companies are a reason.

which regulates and investigates the pharmaceutical industry. He talks about

how congress helped the spread of opioid by shipping out hundreds of

unchecked pills out of millions of pills. This interview takes place on 60

minutes. They even talked about how pills are being sold by doctors but nit in

their clinics, outside under interstate bridges. Yet Rannazzisis didnt know this

was happening but he knew it was a shameful thing to think about
