Announces 3 Days Workshop on

Foundation course of Smart Grid

Driving Force
Government of India has accelerated
development of Smart Grid technologies
in the Indian power sector. Fourteen
Smart Grid pilot projects have been
under implementation in various states of
the country. The proposed functionalities
in these projects include Advanced
Metering Infrastructure (AMI), Peak Load
Management (PLM), Outage Management
Systems (OMS), Power Quality
Management (PQM) and distributed
generation. A National Smart Grid Mission
(NSGM) has been approved by the
Government of India (GoI) which is
expected to develop large number of
Smart Grid projects all across the country
on fast track. In-addition, GoI has also
launched a National Mission for Electric
Mobility (NMEM) with a target of 6 to 7
million electric vehicles by 2022.
Furthermore, all the 100 Smart Cities
across the country will have Smart Grids.
GoI is determined to provide 24x7
electricity to all households by 2019 and
have recently announced 3 focused
programs towards this goal with a total
outlay of USD 14 Billion. Besides GoI has
also increased the Renewable Energy
target to 175 GW by 2022 100 GW of
Solar, 60 GW of Wind, 5 GW of Small
Hydro and 10 GW of other RE resources.
With all these unprecedented initiatives,
India has already emerged as the prime
destination for Smart Grids and Smart
Cities. For successful implementation of
all these programs, Smart Grid
Technologies are going to play a vital
role. Therefore, it is of utmost
importance that engineers and policy
makers are imparted appropriate training
to bridge the skill gaps for successful
implementation of Smart Grid programs.
There is going to be a huge need for
trained engineers and managers in next
five years in the power sector in India,
enable it to manage the future power
grids. Further, the experiences and
lessons learned from Smart Grid projects
world-wide need to be shared through
proper knowledge dissemination forums.
Hence, ERDA in association with India
Smart Grid Forum (ISGF) is organizing a 3-
days Foundation Course on Smart
Grid, which will help the participants
to understand the relevance of smart
grid, its potential and challenges, and
enable them to play a critical role for
Smart Grid development in the country.
The training program will also give a good
exposure to the practical aspects of
smart grid, and its components through
extensive classroom interaction with
domain experts. It will also provide a
platform for the participants to have
peer-to-peer discussions with
experienced industry experts on various
aspects of the Smart Grid.

Note: It is non-residential workshop, assistance to get accommodation in local hotels on
chargeable basis can be provided by ERDA on request. The number of participants is
restricted to 40 and the registration will be on the first-come-first served basis. Please

About ERDA
ERDA is a 40 year old premier professional organization accredited by NABL, BIS,
Government of India and approved by Intertek (ASTA). It is partnering utilities,
manufacturing industries and other organizations in performance testing and evaluation of
more than 100 electrical products as per BIS, IEC, UL, ASTM & TUV-PS, CSA Standards.
The laboratory complex has fully established and integrated facilities for providing
services in areas of Certification Testing, Calibration, Research & Development, Residual
Life Assessment (RLA), Condition Monitoring, Energy Audits & Management, Third Party
Inspection (TPI) and Power Systems. It also undertakes diagnostic and field tests on
products through its Mobile Test Laboratory.
About ISGF
India Smart Grid Forum (ISGF) is a public private partnership initiative of Ministry of Power
(MoP), Government of India for accelerated development of smart grid technologies in the
Indian power sector. Mandate of ISGF is to ad vise government on policies and programs for
promotion of Smart Grids in India, work with national and international agencies in
standards development and to help utilities, regulators and the Industry in technology
selection, capacity building and outreach programs. ISGF has over 100 Members covering
ministries, government institutions, regulators, utilities and private companies from the
industry, non-profit organisations, educational and research entities and students from
renowned institutions. ISGF has constituted 10 working groups examining different aspects
of Smart Grid. The members of ISGF participate in focused working groups to develop
required use cases, standards, technology recommendations and guidelines. ISGF has been
actively providing advisory services to MoP on matters related to smart grids in India and
conducting monthly technology workshops.
