Class and Lesson Information


o 6th grade English
o 22 students
o allotted time: 42 minutes
Goals/Objectives:
o Students will be able to recognize a pronoun in a non-complex
sentence
CCSS:
o CCSS.ELA-Literacy.L.6.1.A: Ensure that pronouns are in the proper
case (subjective, objective, possessive)
Materials:
o Smart board
o Writing utensil
o Bugs Bunny Pronoun video
o Jessica, Jessica paragraph
o Pronouns Worksheet
o Pronoun RIP sheet (Really Important Paper)
Teacher Preparation:
o Past Material
already did a Chalk Talk as a pre-assessment
o Introduction/ Anticipatory Set: (7 minutes)
DLW (Daily Language Warm-up)
Kids grab DLW from the back
Introduction: refer back to Chalk Talk that we did on Friday
What is a noun? (person, place, thing)
o Body:
Guided Practice: (approx. 30 minutes)
Jessica paragraph (read orally)
o Why do we need pronouns? (3 minutes)
What is a pronoun? (word that takes the place of one or
more nouns) (2 minutes)
Bugs bunny pronoun trouble (2.05 minutes)
Define antecedent (the word the pronoun refers to)
RIP Paper (5 minutes)
o Hand out and discuss subject pronoun,
antecedent
Independent Practice: (10-15 minutes)
Pronouns worksheet
o Closure: (5 minutes)

Accommodations:
o I will not ask certain students to read aloud if the question is above
their lexile
Differentiation:
o Students will work with the class to find out the what and why of
pronouns, and will work independently on their Identifying
Pronouns Worksheet
