Emergency Arrangements:
HKN to provide a medical room .

Glennie Street controlled by HKN.
Access Lighting (safety lighting):
Access lightin9 (safety lighting) is to be provided and controlled by HKN, all access routes Will be
assessed for lighting prior to sub-contractor carrying out works.
Task Lighting:
All task lighting will be supplied and maintained by sub-contractor operatives .
Hazardous Materials and Substances:
N/A. No Substances I chemicals shall be utilized during this task.
Waste Management:
Site: Waste materials will be placed in skips provided by HKN .
HKN will manage and control the disposal of all waste products/material accordingly
Sub-contractor will dispose of own waste accordingly.
Special Control Measures:
All operatives will have undergone HKN, sub-contractor and all other relevant inductions required to
work in this area.
All operatives will be fully briefed on the SSOW compiled for this operation .
All operatives shall receive a daily briefing of works to be carried out that day.
All operatives will read, acknowledge and sign this Safe System of Work before commencing work.
Complete physical exclusion zones with warning signage displayed will be in place prior to works,
commencing and will be maintained by sub-contractor. (HKN to assist with the policing of the
exclusion zones) Only trained (Qualified) operatives will move or operate plant.
Working at Height Considerations:
Pipe laying - pipe laying is carried out approximately 1m depth trench on ground . There is no any
risk related underground pipe laying.
Pump I Valve I pipe installation inside pumping station - pumping pit is having around 6m
depth. Scaffolding will be used for pipe & valve installation inside pumping station. Full body safety
harness will be used by all fitters those who are working above 1.8m height.

Safe scaffolding arrangement with lockable caster wheel.

Confine space ventilation arrangement :

Two ventilation fans will be used to ventilate pumping station as one fan for supply air and other for
exhaust air.

Safe arrangement of ventilation fan.

House keeping
Material storage -
All pipe will be staking safely with proper sporting in a suitable location selected with
safety Engineer/Manager.
Pump, valve and fitting will be installed inside a container to protect prom any
possible damagers.

Pipe laying -
All area will be properly clean every day.
Maintain site avoid to collect water for preventing from Mosquito Breeding .

All Welfare facilities i.e. toilets, changing rooms and resting/eating areas will be provided and
controlled by HKN.

1) Description ofworks:

This SSOW is for Diversion of Sewer pumping line for the Waterfront Integrated Resort project,
Colombo, Sri Lanka .
Before the commencement of the activity an exclusion zone erected with barriers and warning signage
will be established by Sub-contractor at ground level around the work area. The exclusion zone will be
monitored by HKN/ Sub-contractor operatives at all times throughout the operation.

5) Mechanical installation Inside sump

1. Five number of puddle collar will be placed as per the shop drawing , while sump civil works on
going for 3 no of pump discharge lines, overflow line and exhaust line.

2. Pipe laying path will be marked on sump wall as per the shop drawing approved by Engineer.

3. C-Channel will be fixed to sump wall using M12 stud anchors with suitable intervals for pipe

bracket supporting .

4. Pipes will be laid up to inside valve chamber which is located at outside of sump. While laying
pipes flexible couplings install at vertical line.

5. Installed duct foot bend as per approved drawing,

7) Pipe line installation methodology

1. Pipe path will be marked as per the shop drawings approved by the Engineer from pumping
station to existing CMC manhole.

2. Excavation of pipe trenches will be done by using an Excavator Backhoe (Construction of

concrete columns will be done in areas where pipes are running above the ground level).

3. Levelling of trenches will be done by using sand and concrete slabs in suitable intervals.

4. After laying pipes & installing valves pressure test will be carried out with keeping 24 hours at
working pressure & 2 hours at two times working pressure.

Monitoring:
This Safe System of Works will be monitored regularly by the Installation Supervisor and toolbox talks
held with all operatives to ensure they are kept up to date with its content.
General Note:
Access & Egress will be monitored by Sub-contractor.
Conclusion:
This Safe System of Working and Risk Assessment is provided to ensure that works to be carried out
have been thoroughly assessed and that every step has been taken for the work to be completed in the
safest way possible.
