Hybrid Car By Sarah, Ethan, Mateo, and Ashley Prepare to meet our car! Hyunnndieeeaaa!!!!!! Background Information on the Project
For this project our assignment was to create an energy efficient
device that could carry two passengers, made out of 50 pennies each that weighed about 250 grams, about 1 meter. Of course as with all projects we did have some restrictions, such as: we could use any type of potential energy we desired except for chemical and nuclear, all energy sources had to be on the vehicle, we could not modify our classroom floor, and all remote control vehicles were banned meaning we could not just bring in an electric car from home and use it. How it Works
Our Vehicle is rolled down an incline plane to put it into motion,
once in motion it continues rolling and going until it runs out of energy and all energy has been converted. The vehicle is started down the ramp because it is pulled down by gravity. One of the greatest features of our machine is how it is fuel efficient since it uses gravity as fuel and does not use any form of fossil fuels to move. Our vehicle prides itself in efficiency and simplicity. 0.97 m/s is our total Velocity Distance vs Time Graph Velocity vs Time Graph 10% The percent of Energy converted to Kinetic 90% The percent of Energy lost to Heat, Sound, and Friction Energy Converted Graph 4 watts Power of Vehicle $6.27 Total Cost to build our car Separate costs of all the items:
Size 33 Rubber Bands- $0.25 per Rubberband (1)
white PVC pipe- $0.67 per foot (1) Rubber Toy Car wheels- $1.00 per wheel (2) Wood- $2.00 Glue- $1.00 2 metal screws- $0.10 per screw (2) Features:
2 Rubber Wheels taken off a tricycle
3 PVC pipe pieces as spacers to reduce friction A wooden Compartment attached to the top to accommodate the passengers 2 Metal Screws to attach the wheels to the car A wooden body/ frame to provide support and structure for the car How we used Friction:
We reducing friction with the rotation of the
wheels by adding spacers between the block of wood and the wheels. The wheels were rubber which made friction with the ground so the car would not be come off the ground. In Conclusion You should Pick our car because.... our car is energy efficient and uses no electrical energy. It also has a low cost to produce. Our car is very fast and during the five meter trip the passengers were completely safe in their protected compartment. The passengers obtained no new injuries during their trip and were secured in their compartment and did not go flying out. Our vehicle covered the distance set with ease and speed. It is easy to start and easy to mass produce. Besides being cost efficient to build one car it is also cost efficient to mass produce. The Ng Dynasty is very proud of our car and we hope you choose our far superior, environmentally friendly, electrically efficient, car to produce!
