MAED 3224
Subject: 4th grade Math Central Focus: Students are to divide 3 digit whole
numbers. Students will also need to identify the remainder
(if there is one).
Common Core Objective: NC.4.NBT.6 Find whole- Date taught:
number quotients and remainders with up to three-digit
dividends and one-digit divisors with place value
understanding using rectangular arrays, area models,
repeated subtraction, partial quotients, properties of
operations, and/or the relationship between
multiplication and division
Daily Lesson Objective:
Performance- Students will be completing two division problems on their worksheets, they must show their
work.

Conditions- Students will be working independently on their exit tickets.

Criteria- Students will show mastery by receiving 80% on their exit tickets.

Prerequisite knowledge and skills needed: Students should have prior knowledge of simple division as well as basic
multiplication facts.

Activity Description of Activities and Setting Time

1. Engage Class, today we will be learning how to divide numbers 5 Minutes
that have 3 digits. Who knows how to divide 3 digit
numbers? Who knows what a remainder is? You guys
will be learning what a remainder is after dividing your 3
digit number.

The teacher will then begin to write the problems 322/7 =

454/6 =
on the smartboard.
2. Explore The teacher will then provide each student a math sheet 12 minutes
(including solutions of major tasks) that has 4 problems on it. Students will be at their
assigned desk. Teacher will read, explain and guide
students through each problem.

1. 848/4
2. 793/7
3. 595/5
4. 946/8
3. Explain Teacher will explain to students that dividing 3 digit 2-5 minutes
numbers is important. The teacher will then go about
telling the students that the remainder in the quotient is
also important because it is still apart of the answer and
you do not just get rid of a remainder of something
(wouldnt throw away leftover candy.)

4. Elaborate/Extend If needed students that are struggling will get extra with 10 minutes
teacher for help. Students that need a challenge will be
given division problems with 4 digits.
5. Evaluate The students will have exit tickets with 2 questions. 10 mins
(assessment methods) 1. 216 4 =
2. 947 7 =

Students will complete exit ticket individually. Students

will have to show their work by drawing a correct
equation along with a correct remainder (if necessary).
Students will be graded on a 10 point scale.
1 point a piece for correct division problem written down
2 points a piece for correct answer w/ remainder (if
necessary)
2 points a piece for fully showing their work.
Materials/Technology: Paper, pencil, smartboard.
