Immigration in the United States, the impact on the economy and its people.

Researcher, vol. 27, no. 8, 24 Feb. 2017, pp. 169-192. EBSCOhost, db16.linccweb.org/login?

President Trump's vows to protect American jobs and improve national security by tightening

U.S. borders are intensifying the debate over immigration's impact on the economy. Many politicians

and workers argue that immigrants -- legal and illegal -- undercut wages and take jobs from native-

born workers. They also contend undocumented immigrants burden society with welfare, medical

and education costs. Immigration advocates respond that newcomers bring badly needed skills to the

American economy, especially in the technology sector, where half the leaders of billion-dollar

Silicon Valley companies are immigrants. Advocates also say immigrants often fill low-wage jobs

short on workers, from home building to landscaping and dishwashing. Many experts fear the heated

debate over immigration may cause the world's most talented young people to avoid studying at

American universities or moving to the United States. This article is important because I can use it to

show how immigrants help to increase the economy in the US.

Camarota, Steven A., and Karen Zeigler. Immigrants in the United States. CIS.org, 3 Oct. 2016,

cis.org/Report/Immigrants-United-States.

The author of this non-profit website says that immigration has played an important role in

America and we can see it on the recent years. On July 2016, the population of the immigrants was
Vela 2

around 43.7 million (legal and illegal) making it the highest number and percentage in 96 years.

Also, it is planned that the immigrant share of the population will pass 14.7% in 2023. The states

with more than 20% of immigrant people living in there are: California, New York, New Jersey, and

Florida. Most of immigrants who came to the US are from Latin America and Mexico. There are

10.9 million students from immigrant households in public schools by this we can know that one

over four students comes from an immigrant family. I believe this non-profit website is important

because it describes how immigration has affected the United States with data and how it will

continue to affect it on the future.

The author in this article discusses the historical aspects of immigration law enforcement in

America in relation to the views and policies of U.S. President Donald Trump as of 2017. And we

can see it by who president Trump has created feared and concern in many immigrants communities

an example is professor Peter Markowitz that says, I have never seen the level of panic that is

gripping our immigrant communities. This article also mentions immigrant activism and the

evolution of immigration enforcement under then-American President Barack Obama's

Administration in the twenty-first century which was one of the most administration who deported

2,571,860 immigrants. And this article is important because this shows us the contrast between

president Trump policys and ex-president Obama policy which also make a great deportation in his

years of office.

The author of this article discusses the relationship between U.S. economic development and

immigration to the country. Immigration policy affects the pace of innovation in the U.S economy,

the supply of labor, the federal government finances, etc. It also tells the benefits of bringing

immigrants to the U.S. with permission to work in this country such as making important

contributions to U.S productivity growth. It also discusses the impact of U.S. immigration policy on

regional economies, the U.S. labor market, and local, state, and federal government finances. And

this article is important because it focus to show how immigrants really support the economic

growth of the US by bringing them to the U.S. with legal permission to work.

Marietta, Melissa. "Undocumented Immigrants Should Receive Social Services." International Social

Science Review, vol. 81, no. 1/2, Jan. 2006, pp. 61-66. EBSCOhost, db16.linccweb.org/login?

url=http://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&db=a9h&AN=21409437&site=ehost-live.

The author of the article opines that illegal immigrants and their children in the U.S. should

receive social services. Since most of undocumented immigrants are denied social services, their

quality of health, education, and safety will suffer for their communities. And this can be seen on

immigrant workers who doesnt have medic care and cannot apply for one until they get a social

security number. Most Americans argue that undocumented immigrants should be denied all such

services because they do not pay federal taxes, and this is true, but they also have families that need

help from the government in order to prosper like an American family. The article also describes

about the cultural impact of immigration on the American society and how they are growing

percentage of the U.S. population, numbering nearly eleven million nationwide. I can use this article

to explain why immigrants should receive social services and to describe the impact they make in

American society.

Marouf, Fatma E. "Alternatives to Immigration Detention." Cardozo Law Review, vol. 38, no. 6, Aug. 2017,

pp. 2141-2192. EBSCOhost, db16.linccweb.org/login? url=http://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?

The author of this article talks about how immigration detention has become one of the most

egregious forms of mass incarceration in the United States. The United States places over 440,000

people each year in immigration detention, far more than any other country in the world. Nearly

three-quarters of these detainees are held in facilities run by private prison corporations. The author

argues that the United States approach to immigration detention must change and there are

compelling humanitarian and financial reasons to utilize more alternatives to detention like an

alternative-to-detention program, which involves electronic monitoring, is used far more often than

less restrictive alternatives. This is important because it show that are many different ways to use

immigration detention and making feel the immigrant a lot safer, than just throwing them into a

prison like a criminal.

The author of this article talks about the president decisions about how he will manage U.S

immigration policy by telling that he will build a wall on the 2,000-mile Mexico-U.S. border, and

deport the countrys 11 million unauthorized foreigners, over half of whom are Mexican specially

the ones who president Trumps called, bad hombres. President Trump after receiving the White

House, has modified some of his positions about immigration, notably announcing that deportation

efforts would be focused on 2 million unauthorized foreigners convicted of crimes in the United

States nevertheless he implied a travel ban to many foreign nationals such as Venezuela, Syria, Iran,

North Korea, etc. And I believe that this article is important since it show the change in policy has

impacted the immigrations rates and discusses the evolution of the U.S. immigration policy under

president Trump administration.

The author of the periodical think that deporting more than 3 million undocumented

immigrants can be a terrible decision in order to increase the domestic product from 4 percent to 6

percent. Not only the author thinks that Trumps economic promises is delusional but also most

economics such as a New York Times economics reporter Nelson Schwartz describes Trumps 4

percent target as audacious at best and fanciful a worst. Deporting millions of undocumented

people will make the economic worst since most immigrants are creating and persevering American

manufacturing jobs. Trumps harsh assault on undocumented immigrants will damage the US

economics in many key areas such as service occupations like retail hospitality, home care, and

health care. This periodical is important because it tells the possible negative economic effects of

deportation policies preferred by U.S. President Donald Trump.
