1) (10) For the following questions answer in your own words and complete sentences:
a) What are the advantages of a force closed cam and a form-closed cam?
b) What is the fundamental law of cam design?
2) (30) It is desired to have a low value of velocity, acceleration, and jerk in a RDFD cam.
In order to do this, during the 1 rise over 120, it is desired to spend 1/2 of the time at a
constant jerk, 1/4 of the time at a constant acceleration, and 1/4 of the time at a constant
velocity. After the rise, dwell for 60, fall in 120 using the standard function that
minimizes velocity for comparison purposes, and then dwell for the remaining time.
What boundary conditions would you enter into Dynacam to design the cam?

1) (10) For the following questions answer in your own words and complete sentences:
a) What are the advantages of a flat-faced follower and a roller follower?
b) What is jerk? Why is it considered in cam design?
2) (30) It is desired to have a low value of velocity, acceleration, and jerk in a RDFD cam.
In order to do this, during the 1 rise over 90, it is desired to spend 1/3 of the time at a
constant jerk, 1/3 of the time at a constant acceleration, and 1/3 of the time at a constant
velocity. After the rise, dwell for 90, fall in 90 using the standard function that
minimizes acceleration for comparison purposes, and then dwell for the remaining time.
